I was born and raised very close to Bilbao, at the mouth of the river 52 years ago, and always lived here but for a year I lived in UK to finish my Marketing and Public relations degree, after three years studying in Bilbao. Passionate about the Basque Country essences, tradition, and hikes I became a professional and licensed tour guide in 2014, when I decided to change my life around and start doing what I really enjoyed, showing my city to the travelers visiting us, as if they were my friends. Basque Country means everything to me, history, people, architecture, tradition, sports, cuisine. . . . this is a unique place in the world to discover, with incredible contrast, with the mountains ending at the wild Cantabrian sea hitting the cliffs creating really picturesque sceneries. I want to show you the landscapes, the culture, the history, the architecture, and of course, the incredible gastronomy we enjoy daily . . . . let's hike the coast, the forests, the mountains, discover the delicious pintxos, the wine, and have some fun. A sailing day in the river
Overview of your Bilbao tour
The river Nervion crosses Bilbao and its metropolitan area, to the mouth of the river, and it has always been its economical engine until the industrial crisis hit our economy in the 80s. With over one million people living in the different villages along the river, this is the second highest human density area in Spain. This was my playground when I was a child, my father was a sailor, and involved in the ship construction, so I had the chance to sail this river many times, when it was not so clean as it is today. We will sail the whole river in this tour, from the mouth to Bilbao, enjoying a panoramic view of all the most important spots and highlights that are imposible to see from a car or a van, among others, the most important village in the world. . . my birthplace. You will know the old and recent history of Bilbao, and also understand much better why we had to transform the city and the economical activity as it is difficult to understand the area without visiting the river. The itinerary is provided upon the largest ship available, with up to 15 people capacity, there is another smaller one in case you are a smaller group, please let me know if this is your case to adapt the tour to your needs. For this 4h tour you we will meet directly at the Getxo marina , unless you need a private transportation, in that case let me please quote the service for you. At 1300 We will embark on a beautiful sailboat, a Jeanneau 51. 1, brand new, constructed in 2020, and we marvel at our breathtaking coastline and Estuary on a 4h tour that combines sailing the coast and the cliffs and going up the river, witnessing the vestiges of our post-industrial architecture and, at the same time, exploring the present-day Bilbao that is more alive than ever. On the way back, time to relax and experience the local and traditional cuisine, having a home made lunch based on the old sailor stews, with a starter, main dish, and desert, to arrive at 1700.
