Ghosts of Vallarta: History and the Day of the Dead

Hi, I'm Gia! Puerto Vallarta has been my family’s home for generations, which means I didn’t discover this city. I inherited it. I grew up hearing the stories behind ordinary places, learning which streets held secrets, and understanding Vallarta as something far deeper than what appears on the surface. At the same time, I spent much of my childhood in Ottawa, Canada, living in a completely different world. Moving between the two gave me a rare perspective. I know Vallarta intimately, but I also understand the thrill of discovering it for the first time. That balance shapes every private experience I design. For the past few years, I started my own tour company because I wanted to share the Vallarta I actually know. Not just beaches and margaritas, but the unique rythms, hidden corners, and local stories that make this city feel alive. Since then, I’ve spent countless days exploring with travelers who arrived as strangers and left feeling like they had unlocked a secret version of the city. I enjoy art, philosophy, and music, and I appreciate the beauty in the vibrant, the mundane, and the details most people miss. Vallarta rewards curiosity. The more you pay attention, the more it reveals. Between the food, art, landscapes, and people, Vallarta has so much to offer, and I want every guest to walk away feeling they’ve seen the city for all of its beautiful nuances.
