Welcome to my profile, hoping to see you soon in person. Where ? The Cinque Terre are a kind of must-see, for your first time here, but do not put limit to what is possible: there is so much to see in this area, and around it. Before coming back to these points, let me however briefly introduce myself. I am Filippo, living now between La Spezia and Manarola. I also own a camper van, my companion during my escapes to the mountains here around. My background is in nature and plant science, ecology, traditional foods, all topics that are strictly related to what we can see and feel during my tours. Don't be surprised: in all our areas the environment and human activities have tight connections, in which we will be completely immersed. It would be ideal if you could bring back home the feeling of having been a part of this system, at least for a while. So, come, and try to stay for some time, to catch at least the essence of places. Nevertheless, I understand that everybody have his own needs, commitments, and schedule, so I'm here to satisfy your individual requests, whether on a classical one-day visit to the Cinque Terre villages, or with more complex and diverse programs. So, visit the villages, possibly also in their most hidden corners, hike along incredible paths, finding the less beaten places, organise programs across several days, taste local food, besides the touristic stereotypes. All that can be for you, and I can be your facilitator, to gently introduce to the real essence of places. And do not forget that the whole coastline from the Cinque Terre to Genova is magnificent, with plenty of touristic and hiking possibilities. Add the inland places of the Apennines and the Apuanian Alps, and the picture is complete. Looking forward to getting in touch with you! Notes All of my tours are absolutely flexible and thought to be adapted to customers preference, within what is possible and safe to do. The ones you find here are examples that you can choose and we can tune to your needs. Do not be shy to ask for a tailor made program. In the coastal areas the climate is mild: why don't you also think about coming in winter ? Hiking is my preference, but I usually guide touristic tours at the Cinque Terre, for which you are welcome; to take the best out of them, however, a minimum walking is necessary. This is a true hike, so be prepared. Start by reviewing the 'Itinerary' section to understand what to expect and what you'll need. La Spezia is placed inside a deep gulf divided from the open sea, on its south-east side, by a thin and sharp mountain ridge. The Cinque Terre villages lay along the seaside of this ridge. Walking across the ridge, from La Spezia to one of the villages, was once ordinary life. Indeed many of the historical pebbled lanes and mule tracks connecting the two sides are still there. In the past they were used for trade, exchanging goods between the two sides, since the Cinque Terre relied on staple foods produced inland. This tour is a real plunge into history. Ascending from la Spezia along historical lanes, among olive grows we will overcome a first ridge, then entering a forested area, with old hamlets, almost abandoned; a sense of solitude can catch us; we reach the ridge and then steeply descend to Manarola or Riomaggiore, depending on choices, approaching the sea from above.
Important: this is a hiking tour. What you need: hiking shoes; adequate clothes for the season; a backpack with things for the day; food and water: no facilities along the way. The tour cannot be done in case of meteo alert. Tour especially suitable if you stay overnight in the area. Walking times will depend on pace. Around 9 a.m.: meeting in La Spezia; start hiking, ascending to the top of the ridge; about 700 metres gradient uphill. Three options for the descent: (decided on the spot, in relation to the conditions): 1. direct descent to Riomaggiore; length about 10.5 km 2. walk along the ridge, and descent to Manarola; length about 13 km; 3. walk along the ridge to mount Le Croci, then descent through the vineyards of Volastra, overlooking the ocean, to Manarola; the more complete (and demanding) option; length about 17 km. Lunch in nature, along the way. Time possibly available in the villages, with the shortest options. From Riomaggiore, or Manarola: return to La Spezia by train.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
