I am a full time tour guide resident in Galway city. I am interested in history, music , culture and sport and Galway has plenty of each. Galway is a medieval gem located on the shores of Galway bay and the perfect size for a walking tour. It is also situated between the unique landscape of the Burren and cliffs of Moher to the south and the scenic splendour of Connemara to the north. Both are easily accessible for day tours from the city. I am not a Galway native but often visited for the weekend and finally on one visit I just decided to stay! It is my pleasure to show visitors around the city and the surrounding areas and demonstrate why they might want to make the same decision. I am a qualified 'Failte Ireland' (Irish tourist board) regional guide for the West of Ireland and have also completed the national tour guide course. I have a BA.hons in economic and social history and an MBA from Trinity College Dublin. I am not a driver. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a car/mini bus and driver.

We will meet at Eyre square at the steps of the Hardiman hotel. We will start at Eyre square the focal point of the city; see some of the city's medieval buildings; including Lynch's castle and the 14th century church of St.Nicholas. we will experience the vibrant atmosphere of the Latin quarter -Galways cultural and shopping centre. We will walk alongside the river Corrib europe's shortest and fastest river. We will finish the tour at the famous Spanish arch and Long Walk whilst looking out at Galway Bay and across to the Claddagh, home of the famous ring. This is a fun and interesting tour which will give you a real feel for the captivating city of Galway.
A walking tour of Galway offered us a fascinating morning. Michael was very knowledgeable about history, art, politics, architecture and relgion. He had a very engaging manner that made history come alive. If ever you u plan to visit Galway, a morning (or a day) with Michael is a must. The rest of your visit will be so much more wnjoyable with his tips.
This was our first trip to Galway (and the third time that we have used TOURS by LOCALS). When we get to a city that we've never been to, we like to get the lay-of-the-land, find out about local history, etc. Michael was the perfect guide to show us all around Galway and share with us the ins-and-outs of his city. Wonderful tour exploring the major Galway sites. There were colorful tales of the city’s history, citizens, and events. Our guide (goes by Michael) was engaging and gave us a wonderful overview of the city. Would highly recommend this tour
We absolutely loved this tour. Michael told showed us stories of Galway we had never heard and answered all our many questions. After many visits to Ireland I feel like I know it better after this tour. Highly recommend.
Michael gave us a tour of things that we would never have seen otherwise. In addition, he was able to give us interesting information about things we had walked passed on our own but had no idea of the stories behind such simple things as a window for example.
