Overview of your Kollam tour
This is a day excursion from Kollam to Mannarasala Nagaraja (snake) temple and Krishnapuram royal palace with a very large mural painting. With my long years of experience, I will be able to connect you to our culture and offer you a unique tour. MANNARASALA temple is one of the unique temples in Kerala, dedicated to Snake worship. Snake worship dates back to pre historic "nature worship" of native Indians. The temple attracts thousands of devotees from all around Kerala and it has large wooded area open for snakes, with thousands of snake idols brought from various "kavu". A unique farm worship practice which existed in Kerala. Also this temple's head priest is a woman! KRISHNAPURAM palace was built by southern Kerala King Marthanada varma in the 18th century AD, which is a great example of Kerala style woodden architecture and its mural paintings. The wall mural of "Gajendra Moksha" is considered to be the largest in India. Join me to discover more!
Your Kollam tour itinerary
- Leave Kollam recommended by 08. 00 am, driving for about 1 hour and a half to Haripad. - Visit Mannarasala Nagaraja (snake) temple. We will be walking around the snake shrines and see the various forms of worship people offer. Seeing activities subject to change due to the daily schedules of the temple. We will be spending around one hour. **Please, be aware that we need to leave shoes outside the temple and walk bare foot (socks are permitted). Photography is restricted. - After the visit, we do one hour drive to Kayamkulam, where we will visit the Krishnapuram palace (about 1 hour). - Return to Kollam (40 minutes drive).
