Explore Kozhikode your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Kozhikode tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Kozhikode for every interest, including:

- Layover tours: With a few hours out of Calicut International Airport, a private layover tour can zip you to Kozhikode Beach for Sulaimani tea, a halwa tasting on SM Street (Mithai Theruvu), and classic biryani at Paragon before your flight. If time allows, your guide can add Beypore’s Uru boat building yards or a sunset stop, with airport pickup, luggage care, and timed drop-off handled for you.

- History tours: Trace the spice trade in the lanes around Valiyangadi, step into the 14th-century Tali Temple and the wooden Mishkal Mosque in Kuttichira, and stand by the stone at Kappad Beach that marks Vasco da Gama’s 1498 landing. Your private tour can also include the Pazhassi Raja Museum and Art Gallery at East Hill and a walk around Mananchira Square, with stories of the Zamorin rulers and old trading houses.

- Art and Culture tours: Start at CVN Kalari to watch early-morning Kalaripayattu training, then meet tile makers in Feroke or artisans shaping ribs and oars for traditional boats in Beypore. Join a hands-on Malabar cooking session to make pathiri and fish curry, browse halwa workshops and handicraft studios on SM Street, or visit the Sargaalaya Crafts Village at Iringal for live demos.

The city centre around SM Street, Mananchira, and the beach is easy to explore on foot, and autos and city buses help with short hops. For spread-out sites like Kappad, Beypore, Feroke, or Iringal, public transport can be slow, so you can book a chauffeured tour or a tour with private transportation, or ask your local guide to arrange it.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Kozhikode inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Kozhikode

From Kozhikode, you can branch out to nearby beaches, hills, and historic towns with easy day trips or flexible tours that match what you like to do.

Beypore brings living craft to life at the traditional dhow yard, where you see massive wooden boats in various stages of build, then wander the stone pier and busy fish landing. If you like hands-on heritage, casual photography, and simple coastal snacks, this harbour town fits well and keeps travel time short.

Kappad Beach adds a clear slice of Malabar history at the spot linked to Vasco da Gama, along with a broad shore for unhurried walks and fishing-village scenes. It suits you if coastal stories, light beach time, and easy access from the city sound right.

Thusharagiri Waterfalls give you cool forest air, short hikes along the river, and natural pools when conditions are safe. Pick this if you want a greener day with steady walking, bird calls, and views that change with the season, and keep plans flexible for rain.

Wayanad’s hills shift the mood with tea and spice estates, Edakkal Cave carvings, and lookout points above the plains. You get milder temperatures, winding roads, and a mix of culture and nature, which works if you do not mind a longer day and like a tour that balances stops with scenic driving.

Nilambur focuses on teak heritage, the forest edge, and the old hanging bridge over the Chaliyar River, so you see how this timber shaped the region and enjoy quiet village stretches. If trees, waterways, and local industry interest you, this route feels straightforward and calm.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Kozhikode most travellers miss.
