Berlin is a city of constant changes - come and see it with me! I'll show you the city in a less touristic, more authentic way, with a strong focus on history and memory, while also exploring what's happening nowadays: contrasting the changes in society and culture (and maybe even food if you would like!). A bit about me: I have a strong multidisciplinary background. I came to Berlin 7 years ago for a PhD in Neuroscience, focusing on Psychiatry. However, it's not just my studies that have kept me here. The city's rich history, internationality and unparalleled sense of freedom have all captured my heart. In addition to Neuroscience, I also have a great passion for history and culture, and I'm a post-doctoral researcher in memory studies, researching the history of the place where I work, the hospital, Charité. I love communication with people, guiding, history, and Berlin! I am an official Berlin tour guide (BBS), with a focus on Jewish history (but not only!), and I also give tours in the New Synagogue in Berlin.

This tour combines two big loves of mine: food and history. This is a walking tour where we will try high-quality local cuisine from Berlin’s diverse culinary melting pot: German, Turkish, Vietnamese and more! As we walk through an area that has been the centre of Jewish life in Berlin since the mid-17th century, we will also see monuments and historical landmarks along the way. Important: This is not a World War II tour. Instead it primarily focuses on the culinary experience. We'll visit around 5–8 outstanding local businesses, including a delicatessen, a bakery specializing in sourdough from Northern Europe, various pastry shops (including the best macarons in town), Vietnamese bánh mì, and—if you’re up for it—one of Berlin’s famous curry wurst spots. If the tour takes place on a Thursday or Saturday, we could also visit a small local market. Regardless, history will be all around us—the depth we dive into it is entirely up to you.
·Once we've gathered, we'll visit the Hackescher Markt. If it's a Thursday or Saturday, we'll visit some great food stands—Turkish & German specialties included. ·Next, we'll visit the site of Berlin’s first synagogue. ·From there, we’ll continue to the historic Hackesche Höfe courtyards where we’ll enjoy some excellent French éclairs. ·We'll also explore the courtyards that were central to Jewish life for Eastern European immigrants in the early 20th century. ·Our next stop is a fantastic bakery that offers wonderful pastries. ·After that, we’ll try bánh mì, a specialty from Berlin’s Vietnamese community—one of the city’s largest minority groups. ·Along the way, we'll see several Jewish institutions, like the Rabbinical Seminary of Adas Israel & the former Jewish girls’ school. ·Later, we’ll taste the best macarons in town, and if there’s still time, we can visit an Austrian bakery & a German butcher/delicatessen. Please note that our stops may vary slightly depending on business opening hours.
