In 2013, I passed through Berlin by accident—and never left. I’m Ben, a history teacher and certified tour guide, and even after all these years, I still find it incredible that I call this city home. Born and raised in Israel, I grew up with the idea of Germany as the "forbidden land" and Berlin as the "capital of evil." But perhaps that’s exactly what drew me here—the city's layers of history, its resilience, and its power to transform. As a scholar of European and German history, I initially thought Berlin would be just another stop on my journey. Instead, I found a city unlike any other—complex, fascinating, and impossible to ignore. That’s why I stayed. That’s why I became a guide. And that’s why I love sharing my knowledge and passion for Berlin with visitors from around the world. What You Can Expect on My Tours 🔹 History Comes Alive – Walk through Berlin’s most iconic landmarks and hidden gems as I bring the city’s history to life, from Prussian grandeur to the rise and fall of the Berlin Wall. 🔹 Jewish Heritage & Memory – As an expert on Jewish life and history, I provide an insider’s perspective on the past, present, and future of Jewish life in Berlin and Germany. 🔹 Beyond the Landmarks – Explore the stunning palaces of Potsdam, experience the vibrant energy of Kreuzberg’s street art scene, or embark on a food and culture tour that dives into Berlin’s diverse flavors. In summer 1936, Berlin was hosting the olympic games. Airports were expanded, stadiums were built, and anti-jewish banners were removed from the streets. The world was united in celebrating olympic values such as friendship, excellence and respect to all nations. At the same time, 20 miles north of Berlin, a new SS concentration camp was built, using forced labour. This new facility will implement all the lessons learned by the Nazis in their previous concentration camps, and will be brought to mercyless perfection. This is Sachsenhausen.
In our tour of the Sachsenhausen Memorial, we will learn about the Nazi concentration camp system and the men who operated it - the SS. We will learn about the different inmate's groups (political prisoners, Jehovah's Witnesses, Roma and Sinti, Jews, and the so-called "A-socials"), observe objects of prisoners, get to know the daily life in the camp. Located in close proximity to Berlin, Sachsenhausen allows Berlin visitors a rare opportunity to observe the Nazi's terror and death regime. Travel to the camp from Berlins central station takes roughly an hour, and so does the way back. We use public translation. a taxi/private van is avalable at your own expense. This is not an easy visit. Please bear that in mind when booking this tour. I am always happy to customize my tour according to your preferences, please don't hesitate to communicate any special interest and get your unique customized tour!
