Hallo! I'm Georgia :) Originally from Bonnie Scotland, my love affair with Berlin began in a high school German class I didn't want to be in. Little did I know I'd go on to gain a Master of Arts in German Studies and - along the way - fall head over heels for a city like no other. Though I belong to the 24% of residents who are not technically German, ich bin eine Berlinerin! When I'm not sharing the city's secrets with international travellers, you can find me on Berlin's storytelling & improv comedy stages, or checking out my favourite veggie and vegan eateries, or revisiting my favourite galleries and museums, or swimming in a lake (but only in the summer!). . . I first visited the Hauptstadt in 2008 as part of a student travel writing project. The rich cultural scene, the historical footprints every. step. you. take. and the heady "Berliner Luft" had a profound effect on me. It was also the first time I took a city walking tour and it changed my life. When I came back to study at the Goethe Institut in 2010, I spent a few months working as a guide myself, sharing my knowledge and passion for the city with anyone who'd listen. After completing my studies, I returned to Berlin in 2015 and have worked full-time as a guide ever since. My favourite tours to give are the ones that help guests connect the history they've heard about with the place we're in - whether that's exploring the rise and fall of the Nazi dictatorship in the former Reich capital, or walking the route of the Berlin Wall and recounting the unbelievable events that led to that border opening up. I also consider it a real privilege to guide visitors around the memorial at the former concentration camp, Sachsenhausen. People who think they're not interested in history tend to feel a bit differently about that after a tour with me. Berlin is uniquely fascinating and full of surprises. If you're a history buff, you'll get a thrill walking the streets that bore witness to the upheaval of the 20th century. If you're a culture vulture, you'll delight in our offering of 175+ museums and 3 major opera houses, not to mention countless permanent and pop-up performance spaces around the city. If you're simply a curious traveller, a visit to Berlin is one of the most rewarding city breaks you can take. I love it here. I hope you will too. Welcome to Berlin! Are you looking for a clear and quick understanding of just what happened in Berlin between 1933 and 1989? This carefully crafted "Express" tour is designed for those who are curious about the history but tight on time. Though Berlin's tumultuous 20th-century history is ever-present on its streets, it can be tricky to make sense of the chaos. In two short hours, I'll take you from the very beginning of the Nazi regime all the way to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Along the way, we'll re-live the final days of the Second World War in Europe, unpack how Germany went from being occupied to becoming two separate states, how World War III was very narrowly avoided, the lengths taken by the GDR to keep its people, and much more. And we'll use the most important and iconic sights on our route to tell these stories. (Don't worry! This isn't a lecture - expect a dynamic and accessible introduction to a fascinating time in history. )
We'll meet in front of Max Liebermann Haus, right next to the Brandenburg Gate. Expect to see and discuss the significance of: - the Brandenburg Gate - the Reichstag Building - the Soviet War Memorial in Tiergarten* - the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe - the site of Hitler's Bunker - the former Luftwaffe Headquarters - the former GDR House of Ministries - the Memorial to the People's Uprising of 1953 - the Berlin Wall - the Topography of Terror - Checkpoint Charlie The tour will end at Checkpoint Charlie, with plentiful opportunities for further independent exploration. *the Sinti and Roma Memorial may be offered as an alternative that requires less walking

This is a walking tour, so we'll be traveling on foot. Berlin is very flat, so very walkable. Expect to walk around 2 miles. If you prefer to travel using private transportation, please let me know - I can arrange a vehicle and professional driver at an additional cost.
Max-Liebermann-Haus, Pariser Platz, Berlin, Germany
