Join me on a journey into the history of the Jewish community of Paris and discover the "Marais" with its quaint little streets, the ancient aristocratic mansions and the charming Rue des Rosiers, the beating heart of the district. Together we will follow the steps of the Jewish families who lived in Paris from Medieval Age to the dramatic events that marked the first half of the 20th century, when the Marais, a bustling and lively neighbourhood full of little stores, restaurants and schools, became silent after WWII roundups. We will visit the Memorial des Martyrs de la Deportation (the Deportation Memorial), the Memorial de la Shoah (the Shoah Memorial) with the Wall of Names and the Wall of the Righteous, an old synagogue (from outside), and the Pletzl. You will also discover the history of the district, the beautiful Hotel de Sully, one of its most beautiful building, and Place des Vosges, a unique garden-square. Are you looking for a nice kosher meal or a sweet bite? Just ask me!
Walking itinerary in the Marais district. The tour starts near Notre Dame cathedral and ends in Rue des Rosiers. You will visit: - Memorial of the Deportation - Memorial of the Shoah - A 19th century Synagogue (outside) - Rue des Rosiers and the surrounding area Please note that memorials are places of silence: private guided tours inside the memorials are not allowed. I will be able to explain you only the main highlights and give you few information but if you want a fully guided tour I can contact the memorials' administration on your behalf and arrange for you a special private tour with their internal guides. In this case we will need to arrange a longer tour (visit to the Deportation Memorial takes about 1 hour - visit to the Shoah Memorial takes about 1h30) and you should expect extra charge. This is a suggested itinerary, let me know what you would like to see and do and I will customize the tour accordingly!

Walking tour. The tour runs with good or bad weather so wear comfortable walking shoes and bring with you rain gear in winter and water in summer! The area is often closed to traffic so walking is the better option but if you prefer I can book a car and driver for you. Please note that the tour is not wheelchair friendly. Some streets are covered in cobblestone or closed to traffic and accessible only by steps. The Deportation Memorial is not completely accessible and the ramp may be closed.
