On this full-day tour, we will explore at your own pace the emblematic sites and the landing beaches of D-Day in Normandy region. We will visit the battlefield at La Pointe du Hoc, where numerous bombs craters still scatter the landscape. We will scout several sections of Omaha Beach, retracing the steps of the US soldiers who managed to secure a beachhead on the most hostile seashore on D-Day. Furthermore, we will pay respects to the thousands of fallen heroes buried at the US cemetery. And we will see the original German canons still fixed in their concrete bunkers, along with the remains of the artificial harbour on Gold Beach in Arromanches. Please note this tour does not run on June 6.
Great guide and really interesting tour. To actually be on the beaches of Normandy was an extremely moving experience. The architecture and history of Mt St Michel as well as the views from the top were well worth visiting. We also got a sense of the beauty of the coast of France visiting the rock formations and white cliffs of Etretat. Pierre was so easy to be around and full of information, this was an outstanding tour.
We are well seasoned travelers and can report that we had the most outstanding touring days with Pierre-Yves. He customized the days..understanding our interests including WWII sights we had not seen on prior trips, and places/museums of Impressionist art significance. His knowledge is both broad and deep, adding context and interest. Pierre was also just easy and great to be with. We were so comfortable and really appreciated his flexibility in planning and his overall concern for making the tour a huge success. 5 stars are insufficient. You would be truly fortunate to travel France with him.
This is a wonderful tour with Pierre-Yves covering both Montmartre and the Orsay Museum. We especially appreciated the walk up to Montmartre on the quieter streets rather than those crowded with other tourists. His deep knowledge of history, art, architecture and culture make every street interesting. We also enjoyed a perfect lunch break at a sidewalk Cafe/Restaurant. The Orsay museum really needs a guide like Pierre-Yves to focus on the highlights. Plus, his enthusiasm and knowledge of the art and artists make the tour especially enjoyable. The building itself is worth seeing on the inside.
Pierre was an amazing guide! He was very engaging as he seemed like more of an old friend rather than a guide. Very knowledgeable and flexible. This was a highlight of our family vacation!
Great day trip to Normandy to see the D-Day beaches and American cemetery. Pierre-Yves was extremely knowledgeable and a great driver. He picked us up an our hotel and returned us there at the end of the day. Highly recommend this day trip from Paris.
