Bonjour! My name is Julien. I'm a Parisian (or maybe I should say a suburban Parisian but don't tell anyone please. . . ) and I love my city. I love how cosmopolitan is Paris and I love its architecture and its museums. To learn about Paris is an endless book. Maybe because there was something about Arts running into my veins already when I was born as (several generations of Architects in my family), I became very interested in Arts from a young age. I could spend hours trying to copy the Mona Lisa. . . Then another passion emerged: learning about other cultures and languages after my first exchange with a Spaniard when I was a teenager. This was the first time I understood how big was the world and how different could be the cultures. This enhanced my interest in learning languages and took me abroad for studies and work experiences in UK, Spain, Mexico. After teaching Spanish for eight years I thought that being a guide would be the most pleasant way to share my two passions, languages and arts with people. And now you can find me at the Louvre, on City Island, Marais or other places, unveiling the stories and secrets of the paintings at the Louvre and monuments of Paris and tasting a piece of cheese or a macaron! So join me on one of my tours and feel free to ask for a customized tour if you have a special interest. I really like to create new tours and tailor tours to people's interests. I'm looking forward to meeting you soon in Paris A bientôt! The Marais is one of the oldest and most charming district of the city. It's quite different from the rest of the city that was partially rebuilt in the 19th century under Napoleon the 3rd. Here you'll marvel in front of the place des Vosges (one of the the most beautiful squares in Paris). Equally beautiful and old is the architecture of the Saint Paul Saint Louis church and that of the mansions built by the nobility who used to live here in the 16th, 17th and 18th century. But the Marais also houses the largest Jewish community in Paris with its traditional bakeries, shops. After a period of decadence, the Marais has been beautifully restored from the 1960s onwards and is now one of the trendiest place to live in with its huge variety of places for foodies (from bakeries to shops for chocolates, cheeses, wines).
We'll meet at the Bastille square, the original location of the fortress that was stormed on the 14th of July 1789. On Thursday, there's a colorful and bustling outdoor market that I really like to show people to introduce them with French cheese and other specialities. If you decide to take the tour another weekday we can stop at a cheese, chocolate shop or bakery for you to try amazing local food since the Marais has a lot to offer for foodies. From the Bastille square, place des Vosges, the oldest royal square in Paris is only few min walk. We'll evoke some of the famous people who lived there, like Victor Hugo. We'll see more beautiful architecture with an old mansion from the 17th c and a baroque church that housed the hearts of Louis the 13th and 14th. But you can't visit the Marais without experiencing the Jewish district with its quaint narrow streets, its synagogue and maybe try a falafel. I'll be more than happy to customize the tour if you have a special request
