Caen had been developed by William Duke of Normandy who erected in 1060 the castle and, after his marriage with Matilda the Abbeys of Men and women. The town had been very damaged by the bombing raids of the 7th of June 1944. You will visit the medieval remains of the castle, the widest in Europe of that period (5 ha), the church of St Stephen where is buried William inside the Men's Abbey and the church of Nativity with its romanesque style. You will discover the pedestrian quarters where the old buildings are mixed with the new ones. You will visit the Memorial of Caen and its WWII museum. Lunch in Arromanches where are still the remains of the Mulberry. Bayeux hadn't been damaged by the war. You will visit its cathedral and the Tapestry embroidered after the battle of Hastings in 1066. The Tapestry of Bayeux is a site of the world heritage of Unesco and it describes the details of William's victory against Harold in Hastings. Visit the old town and discover the British war cemetery of Bayeux.
The itinerary depends on your specific request. In Caen, after a panoramic tour, visit of the Castle, of the Men's Abbey and Women Abbey with their churches of Saint Stephen and of the Nativity. If time allows, stop at the Memorial of Caen. In Bayeux, visit of the Tapestry, the Cathedral and the old town. If time allows, visit of the British war cemetery.
