It has been almost 500 years since Cartagena de Indias was founded, hence its historic and cultural heritage is worth learning. Its undeniable importance to humanity prompted UNESCO to declare this colonial city a world heritage site in 1984. Thus, visiting Cartagena is a must for all those people that cherish such features and others offered by this city interestingly dubbed as the "Jewel Of The Caribbean, The Magical City, The Little Stone Corral and The Heroic City". No wonder many famous films and documentaries have been filmed here, among them "Romancing the stone" and Famous Colombian Nobel Laureate author Gabriel Garcia Marquez's book based movie "Love in time of Cholera", for instance. The amazing and charming colonial walled town is filled with a lot of incredible, iconic landmarks and very interesting history.
1. Right after we meet, we drive up (fully insured comfortable A/C vehicle) to the highest naturally formed vantage point in Cartagena with breathtaking view. This visit is amazing. 2. We drive back down for a photo stop at San Felipe Fortress, the biggest ever built by the Spanish in the Americas. 3. We go to the walled city for an easy walking tour. Then, a stop with enough time for shopping for the famously known Colombian products such as coffee (ground, beans), handcrafts, souvenirs, the greatly coveted and sought after Colombian emeralds, etc. 4. We stop for the free time on your own. Ben will provide you with a street map and will make sure all is fine until meeting again. 5. We rejoin the vehicle and, if traffic allows us, we can drive around the new city, which is a little peninsula with beachfront condos, hotels, businesses, mansions, and beautiful lines of seaside and bayside beaches. 6. Last, we drive by the Bohemian Neighborhood of Getsemani and back to your hotel or the port.
