The Port City of Cartagena was one of the most prosperous City Port in the entire Spanish Empire. Geographically well-placed, Cartagena provided a Safe Harbor to any ship to dock, thus it was established as a major trading center. Most industries and material going to the New Granada Viceroyalty were funneled through the city. The lucrative reality that all new Granadan wealth being traded had to go through Cartagena made it an attractive plunder site by pirates from all over the world.
