The incredible Ellora cave temple is a UNESCO World Heritage monument located approximately 31 km on northwest of Aurangabad (Chatrapati Sambhajinager) of Maharashtra, India.

There are 34 cave temples at Ellora dating from between the 5th and 11th centuries AD. This is a great example of co-existence and religious harmony through the extraordinary architectural marvels carried out by the followers of three prominent religions: Baudh, Hindu and Jain. The excavation was carried out in three phases from the 6th century to the 11th century. The earliest group of cave temples (cave temple 1-12), carved between the 5th and 7th centuries, reflect the Mahayana philosophy of Buddhism then prevalent in this region. The Hindu group of cave temples (cave temples 13-29) was excavated between the 7th and 10th centuries. The last phase, between the 9th and 11th centuries, witnessed the excavation of a group of Jain religion (cave temple 30-34).
