Being an Austrian-American in the beautiful city of Vienna and sharing its beauty and fascinating history with you turns out to be my true calling in life. I have been a private tour guide for over 12 years and I passionately love my job! I was born and raised in Vienna where I also attended Vienna University (Associate Degree in Tourism and PhD in Linguistics). After graduating I had a very fun job, I worked as a flight attendant for Austrian Airlines. I really got infected with the travel bug, and also learned that I thrive when working in an international environment. On one of my trips I met my husband and moved to Los Angeles. America became a second home to my two twin children and myself. We are all US citizens aswell as Austrian citizens. I even went to school in Los Angeles and finished a graphic design degree at UCLA. Sadly many years ago I became widowed and my kids and I moved back to my beloved city of Vienna where I went to school again to become a certified Austrian tour guide - a demanding training of about 2 years. When it comes to my tours my top priority is to give you the most memorable experience possible in whatever time frame we have. I will show you the most important, and also the most charming parts of the city and instruct you on the sites and the history of Vienna. My tours are (hopefully) interesting, informative and humorous. I LOVE history, I have a profound interest in the rise of the house of Habsburg, its downfall after World War I, Austria's dark path leading to National Socialism and World War II. I am interested and quite knowledgeable about Jewish history in Vienna, starting in the Middle Ages, the dark years in Austrian history and the contemporary discussion of art restitution. Please check out my "Women in Gold tour"! One more thing: I absolutely love children. As a mother of 16 year old twins I have a good amount of experience what kids and young adults like and what they find rather boring, please check out my "Kids Foodie and Fun Tour"! (during summer months) If you have read so far that means that you are indeed considering me as your tour guide. Please do contact me and I hope we get to know each other very soon in Vienna! I promise that I will do my best to make this a memorable experience for you and your family! Best regards from this side of the world, Susanne Fully Certified Austrian Guide PhD in Linguistics (German, English and French) Associate Degree in Tourism Graphic Design & Photography Degree from UCLA Extension - Go Bruins! I do not have a car of my own but I can arrange for a separate car and driver. Vienna is a city like New York City where owning a car is not necessary and if so a hassle with parking.

This Jewish history tour in Vienna is directed towards anyone who is either Jewish, who had Jewish relatives in Austria or who just happens to have an interest in Jewish life. My heart goes out to anyone who lost a beloved family member in the Holocaust. We will start our tour at the beginning of Jewish life in Vienna, in the Middle Ages. Why were Jews so indispensable for the city's wealth? This will be discussed while we will visit the location of the old medival Jewish town. Today the city's main Memorial is to be seen here. Then we will visit the gory former Gestapo headquarters, another memorial, and we will get a glimpse of Leopoldstadt, the center of Jewish life in the 19th century. We then continue by tram to Heldenplatz and deal with Adolf Hitler, the Anschluss and the horrors that followed afterwards. Afterwards I want to show you a controversial memorial on Albertina square. Why controversial? You will learn this on the tour!
Meeting location: Hotel Park Hyatt, am Hof • Judenplatz - Jewish Square • Holocaust Memorial • Schwedenplatz - former Gestapo Headquarters • View onto old Jewish town "Leopoldstadt" • Cab ride through Leopoldstadt, see remains of the second biggest synagogue in Europe • Heldenplatz (Heroes Square), where Hitler's annexation of Austria took place • Albertina Square War Memorial End of tour NOTE: Synagoge only from outside (not possible to go inside. You can always participate yourself in Shabbat service).
