Being an Austrian-American in the beautiful city of Vienna and sharing its beauty and fascinating history with you turns out to be my true calling in life. I have been a private tour guide for over 12 years and I passionately love my job! I was born and raised in Vienna where I also attended Vienna University (Associate Degree in Tourism and PhD in Linguistics). After graduating I had a very fun job, I worked as a flight attendant for Austrian Airlines. I really got infected with the travel bug, and also learned that I thrive when working in an international environment. On one of my trips I met my husband and moved to Los Angeles. America became a second home to my two twin children and myself. We are all US citizens aswell as Austrian citizens. I even went to school in Los Angeles and finished a graphic design degree at UCLA. Sadly many years ago I became widowed and my kids and I moved back to my beloved city of Vienna where I went to school again to become a certified Austrian tour guide - a demanding training of about 2 years. When it comes to my tours my top priority is to give you the most memorable experience possible in whatever time frame we have. I will show you the most important, and also the most charming parts of the city and instruct you on the sites and the history of Vienna. My tours are (hopefully) interesting, informative and humorous. I LOVE history, I have a profound interest in the rise of the house of Habsburg, its downfall after World War I, Austria's dark path leading to National Socialism and World War II. I am interested and quite knowledgeable about Jewish history in Vienna, starting in the Middle Ages, the dark years in Austrian history and the contemporary discussion of art restitution. As a mother of 16 year old twins I have a good amount of experience what kids and young adults like and what they find rather boring, please check out my "Kids Foodie and Fun Tour"! This 3-hours walking tour through Vienna's historic city center gives you a great first impression of what the city has to offer and lets you experience all the most important sites. I just can't have you come to Vienna and NOT see these places! We will start our tour at the Albertina Art Palace in which the artloving sister of Marie Antoinette used to live. A beautiful classicist palace! Marie Antoinette and her sisters were Habsburg princesses and grew up in the Imperial Palace. A huge palace complex for the rulers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Next we see famous Ring Street, built around the old city center, with its stunning public buildings, like the parliament. A nice warm cup of Viennese coffee or tea is next on the list. I will teach you all about the 100 different Viennese coffee variations and then quiz you about them later on. We will continue our walk in the historic city center and possibly grab a Figlmüller Wiener Schnitzel to go. Our tour concludes at St. Stephan's Cathedral.
Suzanne is a gem- she is not only extremely knowledgeable of Vienna’s history, she is also very friendly , aware of what we want and the pace was perfect. In addition, she is a professional photographer so she helped us take the best pics in the places we visited! Highly recommended !!!!
Susanne, was such an incredible addition to our trip.. The rest of the week has been incredible because of her overview, during the tour.... We toured with her our second day here, which allowed us to get input from her on where to go during the week and see the highlights in what would be available in a three hour Tour. She took us to very special locations that locals would only know about to enjoy tasty treats and understand certain impacts of architecture, and how the city came to be, which is what really interested us. I was even able to practice my very rusty German with her during the entire tour and she was so patient and courteous. We we're so impressed that we asked to get on a waiting list, should one of her other tours during the week cancel!! Susane is not a follow my flag tour guide...she is so knowledgeable and passionate about her culture and heritage, that It is really more like a true friend that you are visiting while in Vienna! Susanne accommodated our schedule superbly and took the six of us on a fun evening tour, hitting many of the inner city highlights, including a quick stop for Apfelstrudel and Sacher Torte, describing them all with considerable enthusiasm and a strong knowledge of the history. It was a great way to be introduced to the city. She was also very thoughtful in looking out for my wheelchair-using wife. If you're able to find an open time in her schedule you should sign her up. Susanne is an excellent guide.
