Hello! My name is Raphael and as you can probably guess Vienna is the most interesting city in the world. Like every other city. But Vienna is special to me because it is the place where I was born and raised. It's also the place where I have been doing tours for tourists for the last ten years. Originally I studied to become a teacher of history, but it is so much more fun to discover history in the city than in a class room. Also: fewer exams (which, surprisingly, means that people pay more attention). In all my tours I try to connect the past with the present and show that people back then where not so different from people nowadays - give or take a daily shower. All my tours are suitable for children. If you tell me in advance, I will put back in all the bits that usually scare the adults. If you are a teacher, all the tours are also suitable for school or student groups and I will happily modify them to emphasize any topic of your choosing. So, you have arrived in Vienna, where should you go first? Well, your hotel, obviously, but afterwards? Let someone, who grew up here, show you around! This tour will offer you a general overview of the city, its history and its most important sights. We will stay mostly within the Inner District, where I will not only show you famous landmarks, but also help you orient yourself in the city, so that you are perfectly equipped to enjoy the rest of your stay. And don't worry, if you are not interested in just numbers and dates - neither am I. But there are fun and strange and maybe surprising stories hidden everywhere and I love to find them. If you have already been to Vienna or have read about specific sights that you want to visit, I will happily adjust the itinerary below to include whatever else interests you.
Raphael gave my family (2 adults and 4 kids ages 18,17,14,13) exactly what we wanted on our first morning in Vienna. We learned a lot about the history of the city and the Hapsburg's role in the empire and Vienna specifically. He also addressed Austria's involvement in WW2. We learned a ton - he even shared some personal family history as an example to some of his educational points. Highly recommend.
Absolutely wonderful private tour with Raphael. He was so knowledgeable and interesting in welcoming us and informing us on his home city. We had an informative and impressive tour with Rafael. In addition to seeing lots of stunning architecture throughout the city, we learned the historical backgrounds of the various rulers and their families, and had fun and engaging dialogue with Rafael. He is an articulate, considerate and funny guide!
Our tour with Raphael was superb. He did a great job of covering equal parts history, culture, architecture, gastronomy and current events. On multiple occasions, we noted how "we never knew that" and came away very impressed. Would highly recommend him as a guide.

Despite some rain, we had an amazing and enjoyable experience with Raphael, as he introduced us to Vienna and Austria’s history and culture. The highlight was an early tour of the opera house before the general public was allowed in. Raphael was knowledgeable and personable. He invited us to ask questions and answered them well.
