Cu Chi, which is one of Saigon's five rural districts, lies on the North West of this city. During the Vietnam War period , Cu Chi was well known for its tunnels. From here, The National Liberation Front, later known as the Vietcong (VC) launched many surprise attacks on Saigon, the capital of the Republic of Vietnam. In 1966-1967, the South Vietnamese Army, the U. S Army and Australian Royal Army lauched many military operations by sweeping through the Cu Chi area and bombing many villages. In this tour, we will learn how the Vietcong built the tunnels complex , how he lived during the wartime and how he fought the enemies. *Note: If you are arriving at Hiep Phuoc port, please click "MESSAGE KHOA Đ". Khoa and the driver, Tso, tried very hard to please the 4 of us. It was a little difficult to understand their English. The Cu Chi tunnels were interesting. We had lunch at a nice restaurant for tourists but would rather have gone to a small restaurant where locals eat. Khou did answer many of our questions about history, culture, politics and the war.
Our tour guide strived to make our tour less touristy by going to places with less tourists. He had plenty of information to share.
Khoa was a fantastic tour guide for my 3 20-something kids. Scheduling was so easy and he was very flexible. Picked them up at their AirBnb right on time. Khoa's depth of knowledge about the Cu Chi tunnels made it a fascinating and detailed history lesson filled with all kinds of perspectives. that kept them engaged all day. Khoa has such a genuine passion for his city and this tour that it carried though to my kids. He shared great pics of the day with me and chose a fantastic lunch spot that they ae still raving about. This was my kids first trip to Ho Chi Minh and thanks to Khoa it was memorable and they cannot wait to return. Will definitely hire him again. Thanks!
Khoa was great. Great communication. arranged to pick us up at the airport. Very conscious about or safety and comfort. Obviously, very knowledgeable of the sites we visited and presented all angles and perspectives. The tour was great, we felt very comfortable the entire time. All said, my favorite part was probably singing Karokoe (country road - John Denver) with Khoa in the van back to our hotel.
Day 2 with Khoa was more successful for us all. He showed us the "less touristy" tunnels and experience unique local markets filling new year floral needs for locals. He was flexible in several ways when we learned our cruise ship was docked in a closer location than originally anticipated, which was appreciated. We would recommend Khoa especially if you like one of his existing tours or itineraries.
We spent a wonderful day with Khoa exploring the Cu Chi Tunnels. Khoa was very engaging, full of information and committed to making sure we enjoyed our tour. Exploring the tunnels is fascinating and we highly recommend visiting them with Khoa!
- I will meet you at your hotel lobby in Saigon or at Nha Rong port. *Notes : For travelers on the ships docking at Nha Rong port (2km from Saigon city center). I will meet you at the port gate with a sign bearing your name. The port gate is 5 to 15 minute walk from the ship, or, alternatively, you can use the shuttle bus to get to the port gate. - Then the driver and I will take you to the Cu Chi tunnels (Ben Duoc). During the wartime, it was the Vietcong headquarters for the whole Saigon area. The distance between these tunnels and Ho Chi Minh city center is about 60 km. Once there, I will give you a briefing about the Cu Chi tunnels by means of a map and a battlefield model. - We can avoid the tourist crowds with a visit to more authentic places as follows : complex tunnel system, trapping devices, battle trenches, air vents, fighting bunker, Vietcong village (This is not the original village, it is a reconstruction. ), etc…
