I'm the only former National Park Service Ranger offering tours in Savannah. I’ve been voted Savannah's Best Tour Guide by both Savannah Magazine and Connect Savannah Magazine, and my tours are consistently voted the city's Best Walking Tours by readers of those publications. In 2023, I was even named Savannah's "Best All-Around Resident!" I graduated with distinction from the Virginia Military Institute (History Major, of course). My historic and interpretive skills were honed while serving as a Park Ranger at the Richmond National Battlefield Park. Additionally, I had an article published wherein I argued that Civil War battles may have caused rain (Ask me about it – I’ll send you the link. It’s OK to decline and call me a nerd.). All-in-all, I bring over fifteen years of historian/tour experience to your tour. In fact, our tours have been featured on the Travel Channel, the New York Times, and Georgia Public Broadcasting (NPR). The majority of Savannah tours are "anecdotal" tours, meaning guides merely provide a few facts about the buildings and monuments they encounter. I use my Park Service training to create tours centered around a narrative, ensuring guests walk away with a deep understanding of the tour's subject matter. I am also one of the few Certified Tour Guides of Savannah, having passed the exam now offered by the Tourism Leadership Council. I am a member of the Georgia Historical Society, the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation, and the Friends of Honey Hill, an organization actively preserving and interpreting the Honey Hill Battlefield in South Carolina. Once you inevitably learn of my interest in craft beer, it will not surprise you to know I'm a co-founder and Board Member of Richmond Beeristoric, a 501(c)(3) that leads tours of beer-related historic sites in Richmond, Virginia. I recently resigned from my full-time legal practice to focus on my passion: Showing folks around my hometown of beautiful Savannah.

We'll begin with Savannah's economy, its leaders, and the largest slave sale in American history. You'll hear about the Secession movement and see the sites of the first flag of independence raised in the South and one of the most infamous speeches in American history. We'll discuss the effects of the First Battle of Manassas on the city and see the church where so many of these young men attended Sunday School. You'll learn of places like Fort Pulaski, Honey Hill, and Ebenezer Creek. Not surprisingly, William T. Sherman makes an appearance. We'll stand outside his headquarters and detail his time in Savannah. We'll tie it all up with the end of the War, as well as the post-War visits of Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee. This tour is led by a former National Park Service Ranger who served on Civil War battlefields in Virginia.
The tour begins in Savannah’s oldest square, then moves mostly chronologically through the Civil War Along the way, you’ll see historic homes and hotels, Civil War–era churches, important meeting and rally sites, and numerous Antebellum buildings. Antebellum building sites may include the Green-Meldrim House (Sherman's headquarters), the Sorrel-Weed House, and the Andrew Low House. With advanced notice, we're also usually able to secure access to one of the city's most historic churches.
