I'm the only former National Park Service Ranger offering tours in Savannah. I’ve been voted Savannah's Best Tour Guide by both Savannah Magazine and Connect Savannah Magazine, and my tours are consistently voted the city's Best Walking Tours by readers of those publications. In 2023, I was even named Savannah's "Best All-Around Resident!" I graduated with distinction from the Virginia Military Institute (History Major, of course). My historic and interpretive skills were honed while serving as a Park Ranger at the Richmond National Battlefield Park. Additionally, I had an article published wherein I argued that Civil War battles may have caused rain (Ask me about it – I’ll send you the link. It’s OK to decline and call me a nerd.). All-in-all, I bring over fifteen years of historian/tour experience to your tour. In fact, our tours have been featured on the Travel Channel, the New York Times, and Georgia Public Broadcasting (NPR). The majority of Savannah tours are "anecdotal" tours, meaning guides merely provide a few facts about the buildings and monuments they encounter. I use my Park Service training to create tours centered around a narrative, ensuring guests walk away with a deep understanding of the tour's subject matter. I am also one of the few Certified Tour Guides of Savannah, having passed the exam now offered by the Tourism Leadership Council. I am a member of the Georgia Historical Society, the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation, and the Friends of Honey Hill, an organization actively preserving and interpreting the Honey Hill Battlefield in South Carolina. Once you inevitably learn of my interest in craft beer, it will not surprise you to know I'm a co-founder and Board Member of Richmond Beeristoric, a 501(c)(3) that leads tours of beer-related historic sites in Richmond, Virginia. I recently resigned from my full-time legal practice to focus on my passion: Showing folks around my hometown of beautiful Savannah.

Our Savannah History Walk is an excellent way to orient yourself with Savannah’s past. Some topics covered include the Oglethorpe Plan for squares, the father vs. son atmosphere of Revolutionary Savannah, the city’s most famous duel, Presidential visits, the Civil War era and Federal occupation, the experience of Antebellum and post-War African Americans, and the city’s churches and historic homes. We’ll take our talk right up to the tourist boom brought on by a certain book, the growing Port of Savannah, and where the city goes from here. You’ll also hear about dozens of men and women who made this place what it is. This is truly Savannah's most in-depth and comprehensive historic tour. Though it's geared toward those who want a deep dive into Savannah history, it can be tailored to suit the casual fan of history. Whether a tourist or longtime resident, you’ll walk away with a greater appreciation of all things Savannah.
We'll begin in Johnson Square, the first square laid out by our city's founder. We'll head south on Bull Street, visiting at least five other squares. As we veer off Bull Street, you'll see countless historic homes, including those lived in by generals, civic leaders, titans of industry, and the men and women who made Savannah into what it is today. You'll view ancient cemeteries and houses of worship. We're also Savannah's only tour with permission to visit the interior of one of the city's most historic churches (Please note we're able to do so as long as the church does not already have a scheduled event at the time of the tour). We end the tour in Monterey Square, right in front of the home that put Savannah on the pop culture map. Though this is our typical itinerary, this tour may be modified to suit any particular interests you may have!
