The motion picture industry was born here in New York City. Although production would eventually move entirely to Hollywood California, all the big studios had their corporate headquarters here in New York City. Every studio had a "New York" street. Over the last 50 years location shooting became a regular part of movie making and New York City has certainly served as a not just a backdrop but as a character in a great many films. From the first Shakespeare play ever to be put on celluloid to Seinfeld's diner to the entrance into Mount Olympus, New York City has played it's role like an Oscar worthy performance.
The itinerary depends on you and what you are interested in cinematic-ally. Do you want to see where Carrie Bradshaw's wedding was going to take place? Do you want to see where Holly Go-Lightly lived in "Breakfast at Tiffany's"? The "Friends" or "Ghostbusters" building? Are you a Woody Allen fan and want to run into Annie Hall at the same spot Alvy does at the end of "Annie Hall"? Got a Godfather thing? It is all good and all these sites can be visited. Sites selected are based on what you tell me you are interested in seeing.
