I am a native New Yorker, born and raised on the Upper West Side, who's lived and worked my entire life almost exclusively within three blocks of my childhood home. I am the product of an insanely competitive family of "know it alls. " My parents, younger brothers and I all love New York City history and growing up, our dinnertime discussions were a chance to show off what you knew and get some parental attention for being historically correct and entertaining at the same time. I also old love movies, read up on Hollywood and Broadway history, studied old theaters and their architects, and ultimately threw all that into the dinnertime plea for attention. I'm the only one who ended up a New York City tour guide, so that gives you some idea of the depth of my passion for this place (or my desperate need for attention). Up until a few years ago, I owned and operated one of the largest independent movie rental stores in NYC, so unique and comprehensive that it was voted "Best in New York" by several publications including New York Magazine. In 2006, I petitioned the City of New York to rename West 103rd Street (between Broadway and West End Avenue) Humphrey Bogart Place to honor the late actor, whose childhood home on the block now bears a plaque with a dedication I wrote. That is me, by the way, with the late Miss Lauren Bacall in the picture to your left. Another New Yorker, she was just shy of 82 and was still breathtaking. Those eyes . . . I love this city and all it's peculiarities, and I love sharing it with new-comers, returning visitors or native New Yorkers—anyone who wants to know not only why Wall Street is called Wall Street, where is the "square" in Times Square or where are the batteries in Battery Park. I'll tell you these and other fascinating things you never knew about this amazing place I call home because "there are 8 million stories in the naked city" and I will share with you as many as possible. Licensed by The Department of Consumer Affairs of The City of New York. I am a veteran New York City tour guide. Proud member of the Guide Association of New York City.

Overview of your New York City tour

You have come all this way. You have undergone security procedures as invasive as a medical exam. After the trip here, after all that work, why would you want to conform to someone else's agenda? I love working with guests to our fair city on what will be an unforgettable experience of some of my favorite things about this town that I have always called home (for more years than I care to admit). This tour is incredibly flexible and together we can personalize a tour of New York that covers what you want to see and do. Meaning YOUR AGENDA. Do you want to walk the Brooklyn Bridge? Do you want to find the best cheesecake in the world? Do you want to see Humphrey Bogart's childhood home? Do you want to see were John Lennon lived? Do you want to try one of the best restaurants in Chinatown? Do you want to shop? You tell me, we work it out together. As the song says "what street, compares with Mott Street, in July". Only Mott Street in May can compare.

Our 7-hour tour with Gary included a visit to President Grant's tomb, so our tour was mostly focused on the Upper West Side, plus a few Mid-Town sites, ending at Times Square. Gary is a very personable guide with an in-depth knowledge of NYC, present and historical. He supplemented the tour with photos and maps. We saw a lot of interesting sights not normally visited on a tour of NYC. Overall a great day with Gary, strolling the city and learning much more than we could do on our own.

Gary was AMAZING! His knowledge and love of New York is readily apparent, and he worked with us to make our day just what we wanted...at first we were daunted by a 7 hour walking tour of the city, but he kept the pace very, very doable, even for me. We had so much fun with him - we loved that HE loved the theatre, and his stories were so interesting...he knows the history, as well as what is currently going on with Broadway, and that was very appealing to our group. FIVE STARS all around for Gary!

My granddaughter and I spent an amazing 8 hours with Gary. His in-depth knowledge of the city and story telling skills made the day really enjoyable and informative. We walked the Brooklyn Bridge, took deep breathes at the 9/11 Memorial, eyed the "ball" in Times Square, ate pizza, saw a frog in Central Park, rode the subway and more! Perfect day. Looking for a day packed with learning and fun? I highly recommend Gary!

Gary was excellent as a guide with my client and my group in NYC. He gave them a city bus tour and stayed with them for the rest of the day. Everyone was very satisfied by Gary's services.

Gary was a fantastic guide! He was so knowledgeable and personable, he really made this tour great. He went out of his way to show my son, a budding musician, places that would be very meaningful to him. His knowledge of the city and anecdotes were really appreciated. Thank you for a most wonderful tour with such an awesome guide! I highly recommend him and will definitely contact him again on our next trip.

We absolutely enjoyed our tour with Gary! I honestly didn't want it to end. He's a wealth of knowledge about all things. He was engaging and funny. He talked directly to our 12 year old and made him feel just as included as the adults. I imagine our next trip to NYC will definitely include another tour with Gary!

Your New York City tour itinerary

We will start at your hotel (or a mutually agreed upon location) and we will see: - Times Square (I will explain why there is no square in Times Square) - The theater district and Rockefeller Center - We will go up to Central Park, the most famous park in the world, and explore that a bit. - We will go to Lower Manhattan and see not only where this great city began but where this great Nation started. - We will also see where a great many people lost a great deal of money over the decades - Wall Street. We will also visit: - Battery Park (there are no batteries - believe me I looked) - The National 9/11 Memorial We will also see Grand Central Terminal, this is a place I feel is a must as it has been restored, it is incredibly beautiful and has a great food court. There is nothing written on stone, if I left something out that you want to see, let me know. Do you want to include a visit to Harlem? Lets go!
