My life journey brought me to the area because I fell in love with New York City. I settled in Hoboken, a small charming town right across the Hudson from Manhattan, and have been here for over 20 years. I've been working as a New York City tour guide for over 10 years now, taking people to see the major landmarks as well as secret little spots off the beaten tourist path. I love telling stories behind what meets the eye - stories involving famous writers, daring architects, beautiful women, self-made millionaires, and countless other colorful characters. At first, Hoboken attracted me for its easy proximity to Manhattan, which I've been enjoying almost every day. But with time, I've discovered the charm and beauty of this unique little town, known as the Mile Square City. Tiny in size, it has the energy of a big city as well as the cozy feel of a neighborhood. This town features sidewalk cafes, streets lined with 19th-century brownstones, old Italian shops where one can get the best freshly made mozzarella on this side of the Atlantic, and a waterfront with breathtaking views of Manhattan. Hoboken was made world-famous by being the shooting location for the movie On the Waterfront starring the young Marlon Brando, the setting of the first baseball game ever played, and the birthplace of Frank Sinatra. I've always loved the energy of a big city but living here learned to appreciate the neighborhood feel - when your butcher knows your name and asks about your family, and the owner of a local restaurant is your next-door neighbor. I can take you around this charming little town, which feels like one of the City boroughs. I can show you New York City's skyline and point out its many landmarks. I can take you to Manhattan to enjoy a day of sightseeing or a night of jazz, secret speakeasies, well-made cocktails, and swing dancing. Join me for a walk along Fifth Ave - the name associated with wealth, glitz, and glamor. Fifth Ave is one of the best-known streets in the world, especially the stretch known as Millionaire Row. Once upon a time, it was lined with the finest homes of New York's wealthiest people - a place of ambition, intrigue, scandal, and the most spectacular balls ever given. This tour is not just about the landmarks, it's about the history of New York City and the people who shaped it into the metropolis. It's about millionaires and architects, visionaries and beautiful models, artists, and writers whose names are forever connected to Fifth Avenue.
We will start in front of the historic Plaza Hotel and will walk along Fifth Avenue. There will be frequent stops to admire the landmarks and learn their stories. These are some of the sights we will see: - The Plaza Hotel - Pulitzer Fountain - Tiffany & Co. - Trump Tower - St. Patrick's Cathedral - Rockefeller Center - Times Square - The St. Regis Hotel - St. Thomas Church - Cartier Building . . . and more
