I am proud to be born and raised in New Orleans! My love for this city runs deep, and started with my grandfather's dream of owning a piece of its reputation for world-renowned food. He and my grandmother started Short Stop Po-Boys in a small grocery store over 50 years ago, and it has been a part of our family and local community ever since. Bringing people together was something that was so important to them, and they made sure that passion lived with every one of us. I remember sitting around listening to him share stories about how it all began, and those are some of the memories I hold most dear. They are also just the thing that sparked my never-ending curiosity! Over the years, owing much of it to my father, I've developed a sincere love for history, and there is no shortage of it in New Orleans! I spent 15 years in luxury hospitality which took me to other destinations all over the United States, and then the historical roots of the city came calling. With the support of family, friends, and other historians, I've found my way to being a professional guide, and have never looked back! Now as a grateful husband and father of 3, I instill that same excitement in my own family for our unique culture, and its incredibly rich beginnings. With every guest, my true goal is that you return home with a deeper understanding and love for the spirit of New Orleans. It is truly the best of both worlds! See what a short drive from New Orleans has to offer with a visit to Laura Plantation followed by a tour of one of our Louisiana swamps. Laura Plantation is one of my favorite plantations because it has an incredible 11 structures to offer - all listed on the National Register. It is also the only Creole plantation that speaks to my native heritage. From there we are going for the swamp tour by boat. This is exciting and adventurous as you can experience the thrill of cruising through the cypress trees and moss, with the opportunity to see some incredible wildlife such as alligators, turtles, egrets, herons, and hawks. This day will give you an unforgettable experience that can only be had in Louisiana.
Absolutely fantastic tour - Ben is incredibly knowledgeable and a wealth of information for local history and culture. The private airboat tour was amazing (there were just the two of us) and the plantation was fascinating (and a bit sobering). We came away with wonderful memories, some really incredible pics, and awesome recommendations for food and drinks. Highly recommended, and will definitely repeat with Ben on another tour when we return!
Ben tailored our tour to include my wife's and my must-haves: Whitney Plantation tour and private airboat swamp tour. Ben's communication was clear and his responses were close to immediate. All day, though the tours, lunch, on the air boat, the three of us talked like friends who hadn't seen each other in a long time (I know that I talked too much, but that is my issue...). We are likely to come back to New Orleans, and when we do, we will do another tour with Ben.

We will begin your tour from your location of choice in New Orleans. Enjoy a comfortable estimated 1 hour drive to Laura Plantation where along the way I will share with you the history of plantation country and its relationship with New Orleans. Once at Laura Plantation, the on-site docent will walk you through the home, as well as give you time to explore the immense amount of structures and offerings on its grounds. You can expect to spend 90 minutes or so at the plantation. Following Laura, you will head to your Swamp Tour, where you will experience the beautiful and secluded Louisiana Swamps, with the luck of seeing wildlife as well! We only use the smallest available boats with incredibly knowledgeable captains. Your Swamp Tour is estimated at 90 minutes. This full day is approximately 6. 5 hours in total. Because of the length of this tour, I am happy to build in additional time for a lunch stop.
