"Madame Lily Devalier always asked 'Where are you?' in a way that insinuated that there were only two places on earth one could be: New Orleans and somewhere ridiculous. " ― Tom Robbins, Jitterbug Perfume Madame Devalier can certainly be forgiven. My first arrival in New Orleans, more than 30 years ago, was memorable for two reasons: It was the day I made my home here, and the day I fell in love with this irresistible town. There is much here to love: The agreeable climate, the teeming gardens, the ornate streetscapes, and the most hospitable people in the world, all surrounded, as it turns out, by the most civilized small city in the New World. The rich, fragrant essences of hospitality, authenticity and celebration infuse the very air, and inform every aspect of our lives, even in the face of adversity and loss. Over the course of my long career in the hotel industry, my life's work has rewarded me with countless opportunities to welcome you, the intrepid and curious pilgrim, to the Creole City and to what my favorite singer/songwriter, Mr. John Boutte, intones as the "Eternal Now". It is, by any measure, a labor of deep and abiding love for my one true home. Here's some truth: The difference between a tourist and an honored guest is the right host. Playing that role is the path to my bliss, and I hope you will think of me not only as your host, but as your faithful guide and friend. This mysterious metropole has much more to offer than space permits here, so check out my tour links. Want more? I am always happy to prepare a custom itinerary that I guarantee you'll love! 'Til then: Safe travels! PS: If you've read this far and you're still with me, say "Hi". I'm sure we'll pass a good time! Overview of your New Orleans tour

New Orleans is well know for her distinctive and beautiful burial grounds. On this excursion, we will visit three of New Orleans' 41 historic cemeteries. These burial grounds have very different histories, situations and stories to tell, and give visitors a sense of what underlies Louisiana's distinctive burial practices, from jazz funerals to "ex voto" offerings of extraordinary meaning, to the adaptations to the natural environments of the city that given rise to these remarkably textured cityscapes.

Your New Orleans tour itinerary

I will pick you up at your downtown hotel, or other downtown location of your choice. We will visit 3 of our most remarkable burial grounds: Chalmette National Cemetery, located at the Chalmette Battlefield in St. Bernard Parish. Situated on the site of the Battle of New Orleans (1815), it contains the remains of soldiers who served from the war of 1812 through the Vietnam War. It has been maintained by the National Park Service since 1864. St. Roch Cemetery #1/ National Shrine of St. Roch, situated in the heart of the historic Ninth Ward and dedicated in 1875, this "above ground" cemetery is a hidden gem among New Orleans' more than 100 cemeteries. Charity Hospital Cemetery, established in 1848 and situated in the Canal St. cemetery district, is the final resting place of thousands of unknowns persons. Replete with lessons for the living, it features the New Orleans Katrina Memorial, built in 2009. Not to be missed!
