We had three tours with Leanne, spending three days together and covering most of New Orleans by foot and in a very spacious car. Leanne is a great guide and a very nice, easy-going person. She is extremely knowledgeable about the history of New Orleans and, as a multi-generation local, she shared her passion for the city while answering everything we wanted to know about NOLA. She is very organized yet flexible, whether changes were planned in advance or spontaneous when our group wanted to do something different. She also gave us great tips on additional places and food to explore during our free time. Leanne was wonderful with our teenage daughter, who was very sad to say goodbye when the final tour ended. Hi! My name is Leanne and I am a 6th generation New Orleanian. That means my triple G (great X3) grandpa came and settled in New Orleans in the early 1800's, a family history that runs back about 200 yrs. I really love New Orleans, I know I am so lucky to have my roots so deep in these swampy soils so many people and critters have been blessed to call home. For instance a secondline parade just rolled down my street yesterday with brass bands and thousands of people from a tradition that started in the early 1700's. And it's not Mardi Gras! :-) I'd love to tell you about it! And bring you to my family tomb in my neighborhood cemetery and give you a tour of my home through a historic shotgun home. My ancestors are tied into the rich food traditions of New Orleans; from my triple G grandpa selling boudin out of his Creole cottage window in the bywater in the 1860's to today at our local Frey family restaurant. I'm local through and through and that's why I wanna tell you all about this amazing city. I started giving swamp tours at the Science and Nature Center in high school and college. I've been giving tours for 20 years! Serving in West Africa for Peace Corps I learned even more intimately about the Central and West African ties to this city. It was there I learned the real story behind Voodoo and Gombo. During Hurricane Katrina, my house got 13 feet of water and my neighborhood is only about 40% rebuilt today. I talk about what's real and what's legend from a very local perspective. I have a passion for people, culture, my family history and having a great time with you in the Big Easy! I given hundreds of tours to thousands of people all over the city and working for myself it never gets old. This city on any day has something totally unique to share. Ive toured school groups, volunteers, business groups and travelers from around the world! I love people and I guarantee you will fall in love with my city and probably me too! ;-) But that's what New Orleans is all about, being real, friendly, taking it easy and letting the good times just roll. Overview of your New Orleans tour
We will move and groove through 300 years of New Orleans History , music and vice from the French Quarter to Frenchmen street. Listening to music like Blues, Jazz , Zydeco and Brass bands to today's local Rap, Gospel and Bounce music! Moving from the French Quarter to the Marigny and possibly the Treme and 9th Ward, where my ancestors and Fats Dominos stomping grounds lie! We will talk and drink to all the rich history, culture and traditions that made New Olreans into one of the best nightlife hotspots of the World. We will talk rich music history and listen to local musicians inspired by international greats like Louis Armstrong, Mahalia Jackson, Fats Domino, Kermit Ruffins, Big Freida and moooorrrreeee! I went to school with Lil Wagne at McMain and the great Batiste's and Marsalis's family muscians at NOCCA. I also grew up in the same neighborhood as Trumbone Shorty, Jessie HIll, and the Great Fats Domino!

Your New Orleans tour itinerary
We will make our way from the French Quarter to the Marigny checking out local street musicians and local favorite drinks and talk about the early history of music, drinking and vice in New Orleans. Day touring we can go to Congo square at Louis Armstrong Park where hundreds of slaves would sing and dance in their local traditions dating back to the 1700's. The Treme is famous for it's music and we talk about the deep roots of musical history of the city from the first Native drumming circles and slave ships that enriched New Orleans music to this day. We will catch live music like a brassband on Frenchmen st or a band in the courtyard at Bacchanals in the 9th ward! The 9th ward is home to MANY amazing music legends and where we will tour and talk about music legends like Fats Domino, Trombone Shorty, Jessie Hill and Big Freeda!
