YiFen was a marvelous guide. We wanted special experiences as we had done all the “usual” stuff… she found us some really cool sights outside of Taipei on a long daytrip. She was great with our kids and has a great energy about her. Highly recommend

"You are the eyes of tourists" one of my guests said to me. After visiting 40 countries around the world, I decided to become a tour guide of my home country - Taiwan. For past 20 years, I was eager to see the other part of the world. I tried my best to travel around. When traveling couldn't satisfied me, I spent a year in the UK in order to know more about local life and also received my Master degree. One day, I realized what I was looking for is not from outside, but it is actually inside my home country — Taiwan is no less beautiful but very unknown. I think it's time to tell you this hidden gem. Please come and travel with me! It makes big difference who you travel with. We can talk about Taiwan and/or exchange our travel stories! One Canadian lady (who is the owner of a chocolate and organic tea house in Kyoto, Japan) told me : you have very sensitive eyes! After I showed her a special photo I took in her wonderful tea house. A British friend once said to me: You are unique! Yes, I'm unique :-) I've been to many places, not only Europe and the US, but also Iran, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Myanmar, Lao. . . on my own or with a friend. Those experience made me see things in different way and that's why I can write travel articles (now I write articles about arts and culture) for the top 1 newspapers in Taiwan. The places listed in the tours might be similar to others, but I am the one who made it different! Please come and travel with me. You will love Taiwan as I do! PS. 1. I was majored in computer and trained/did coding for 10 years. I had been working for airline / national tourism board / travel agency, and now even as a tour guide, I am different from other tour guides who is just a tour guide ;) PS. 2. Tour guide is my main job. My 2nd job is tour leader. In summer, I often escort student group to study English overseas. Spend 3 to 4 weeks in England/London or Boston/New York. My 3rd job is writing articles (including taking photos) for the leading news paper in Taiwan. It's a full page articles printed on the newspaper (not a internet blog which anyone can write). If you are interested, I'm more than happy to show you the collections of my favorite clippings! PS. 3. Where have I been to? The countries I have visited including Singapore X 14 times The UK X 14 Japan X 13 The USA X 7 Malaysia X 7 Germany X 5 Indonesia X 4 Thailand X 4 France X 4 Australia X 3 Holland X 3 Austria X 3 Turkey X 2 Italy X 2 Spain X 2 Slovenia X 2 Portugal X 2 Cambodia X 2 Vietnam X 2 Following are only once: Iran / Myanmar / Nepal / Lao / Sri Lanka / Morocco / Maldives / Guam / Palau / Philippine / H. K. / Macau / Czech / Vatican / Belgian / Canada / Kenya / Zimbabwe / Zambia / Botswana I used to have a full time office job so it was not easy to do all those trips. . . . I really tried my best :) PS. 4. Tour Guide (Inbound) License in English / Mandarin since 2008. Tour Leader (Outbound) License in English / Mandarin / Japanese since 2006. MSc degree in eTourism, University of Surrey (UK) - Awarded Chevening scholarship by British Office 2011 Taiwan Tourism Elite Selection and Overseas Training Program at University of Hawaii (Tourism Executive Study Program) Writing Travel Articles / Art and Culture Articles (Full page) for the Top 1 newspaper in Taiwan. I am not a driver so most of my tours including a charter car/van with a professional driver.

Pick up from a hotel inside Taipei city. We will visit: 1. Shi-Fen (Ping-Xi), a coal mining village with waterfall and sky lantern release activity. 2. Jiu-Fen (Chiu-Fen), a gold mining village with mountain in the back and ocean in the front. You can choose a tea house to appreciate the view.
YiFen was a marvelous guide. We wanted special experiences as we had done all the “usual” stuff… she found us some really cool sights outside of Taipei on a long daytrip. She was great with our kids and has a great energy about her. Highly recommend
I highly recommend Yi Fen as an exceptional tour guide! With her in-depth knowledge of Taiwan's history and culture, she is the perfect companion for any visitor looking to explore the island. I spent two days with her, and she truly stands out as the best guide I've had from Tours By Locals. She expertly tailored a tour of the highlights of Taipei, ensuring I saw the city's most significant sites. She took me to the beautiful towns of Shi Fen and Jiu Fen, to enjoy breathtaking views and rich local culture. Our conversations about life in Taipei and various aspects of Taiwanese culture were engaging and insightful. Yi Fen is incredibly attentive to her clients' interests and brings a wealth of knowledge to every discussion. She has a profound understanding of Taiwanese history, culture, and the significance of each site we visited. Additionally, Yi Fen has a remarkable talent for photography, capturing stunning images with her keen eye for detail and unique perspectives. The restaurants she selected were authentic and beloved by locals, offering us the best of Taiwan's traditional cuisine. More than just a guide, Yi Fen is cheerful, friendly, courteous, and kind. She willingly shares her experiences and is ready to answer questions. Overall, my experience with her was unforgettable, and I wholeheartedly recommend her.
It was wonderful to spend a day outside of Taipei, and Yi Fen was the perfect guide with which to spend it. The waterfall and both villages were fun.. but the highlight was the sky lantern release.. which was not expected. This was one of three tours in Taipei that we booked with Yi Fen... all of them were terrific. She's an excellent guide and we would highly recommend her.
Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. English is decent. She is well traveled herself. Very good about pre-arrival correspondence. We did a good job covering the sites time-efficiently and did this tour in 4 hours. Paired well with a driver and a Mercedes van that made seamless. I enjoyed the tour.
A little different than the subject line-- its was a nature trip, however since this was the second of three days-- we went out the Coastal area to see the very Impressive rock formations a Yehliu Geo Park-- from there lunch in a very good, genuine local seafood restaurant, and onwards to the Mining Village and the Volcanic Landform (XIAOYOUKENG) in Yang Mingshan National Park- a beautiful part of the country to visit. Did not feel rushed at any of the stops, which made the experience most memorable. Yi Fen K- will customize the trip if there are places of special interest you want to see- very flexible--
Great Tour-- Wanting to see another part of Taiwan, then take this with Yi Fen K. Well organized and flexible-- highlights were worth seeing especially if you have more than one day to spend.-this was a our third day with Yi Fen K- the old coal mining village had great tea-houses ( lunch stop) amazing views-- and the sky lantern release was a sight worth seeing.
Pick up from your hotel inside Taipei City. Transfer to Shi-Fen (Ping-Xi) (around 45 minutes to 1 hour). Visit Shi-Fen (Ping-Xi), famous for the biggest waterfall in Taiwan. Take a nice walk (around 15~20 minutes) to waterfall. If you like walking, we can extend another 20 minutes walk to see the waterfall from different angle. Visit the village near the waterfall (few minutes by car). Here, you can write down your wishes on the lantern and release it to the sky. People here believe your dreams will then come true! Transfer to Jiu-fen (around 40 ~ 50 minutes). Visit Jiu-Fen, a gold mining mountain village. Walk on the old street with lots of shops and stop at the old theater for photo. You can choose a tea house to have a cup of tea or lunch with great view. Back to Taipei City (around 45 minutes to 1 hour). P. S. 1: There are staircases in the mountain village and waterfall area. P. S. 2: The order of visit will depends on the pick up time and weather.
