Believe it or not: Religious Taipei Orientation Tour

Peining is an excellent tour guide. I picked this tour because I wanted to learn about the local religions and culture. I had assumed that Taiwan was basically a Buddhist country but, I learned, that Taoism is the dominant religion. I learned the differences and similarities between Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism and toured several fascinating temples. Peining is a font of knowledge about all three religions. She also points out other sites along the way and provides historical overviews of buildings and neighborhoods that you will pass. I highly recommend Peining and this tour.

This is a very interesting tour of religious aspects of Taiwan. Pei-Ning is very knowledgeable about the subject and provided a very friendly tour. Her English is very good.

This was a wonderful half-day tour that offered a thoughtful introduction to Taipei’s religious and cultural heritage. We began at a Japanese Buddhist temple, continued to a Confucius temple, and finished at a Taoist temple, giving us a great overview of three distinct traditions. Peining was a warm, engaging, and very knowledgeable guide who shared clear explanations and interesting facts at every stop. For anyone who wants to deepen their understanding of local culture while traveling, this tour is an excellent choice!

My husband and I really enjoyed this tour. Peining is extremely knowledgeable about the history, rituals, deities, and symbolism throughout the temples. There is so much word play in Chinese, and now I have a deep understanding of how this is represented in the animals, plants, food, and other objects depicted on the roofs, doors, sculptures, rituals, and beyond. I also learned how to visibly distinguish the differences between the deities by how they are presented. Thank you!

Pei-ning is so wonderful! She is not only extremely knowledgeable but also an avid learner-lover of Taiwan history. She is a kind, friendly, and patient; happy to take the time to answer any questions, share stories, and show you lots of details you might not notice otherwise. I really enjoyed learning from Pei-ning and highly recommend her tours!
