Zürich is Switzerland's "kleintropolis". That is what Max Frisch, a native author and architect, called this place: a small metropolis. Even though the city has grown substantially since Max's time, the description still fits! Come discover this cosmopolitan town filled with culture and history! Our walk begins at the edge of the old town. I'll lead you along the cobblestone streets and show you where the Romans and Carolingians settled. We will explore both the Niederdorf and the Bahnhofstrasse side of the Limmat River. You will see architecture from the medieval to the modern. In addition to the the guild houses, chocolate shops and churches you will notice there are a lot of fountains. Zürich started creating fountains in the Middle Ages to provide residents with water and never seemed to stop. We'll see and talk about them before ending the tour near Paradeplatz and Lake Zurich.
I will meet you in the lobby of your hotel (if it is located in the city center). We will begin from there and see as much as Zürich as possible during our time together. This is a private tour therefore you will determine the pace. The possibilities include: Zürich Hauptbahnhof (train station) Swiss Landesmuseum Bahnhofstrasse Urania Tower Lindenhof St. Peter's Church & Clocktower Roman Ruins Limmat River Rathaus (City Hall) Guildhalls New Market Square Haus zum Recht Former home of Vladimir Lenin Cabaret Voltaire (birthplace of Dadaism) Paradeplatz Grossmünster Church Sprüngli Chocolate Shop Lindt Chocolate Shop FrauMünster Church and Cloister Niederdorf Renweg Opera House Lake Zurich If you like we can skip some of the above sites and take a ride on the Polybahn to get an exceptional view of Zurich,, see the University and if you like the Locker of Albert Einstein - a former student.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
We will be on foot and cover about 3km (2 miles). Please wear comfortable shoes and be aware there are some moderate hills.
