Explore Lausanne your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Lausanne tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Lausanne for every interest, including:

Food and Drink tours: Start at the Saturday market on Place de la Riponne to sample tomme and saucisson vaudois, then pop into Chocolatier Blondel on Rue de Bourg for a warm praline. Continue into the Lavaux terraces for a cellar tasting of Chasselas in Lutry or Epesses and a simple lunch at a village caveau.

Nature and Wildlife tours: Climb the wooden tower in Sauvabelin forest for lake-and-Alp views, then follow your guide along the Ouchy shoreline to spot swans and migratory birds near Parc Louis-Bourget. Prefer quiet paths? Slip into the vineyard lanes above Lutry for sunny stone-wall trails and lizards warming on the steps.

History tours: Explore the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, then walk down the Escaliers du Marché to the merchants’ quarter and Château Saint-Maire. Finish at the Roman site in Vidy to see foundations of Lousonna and artefacts at the Musée romain.

The centre is walkable but steep, and the M2 metro plus buses make hills easy; for vineyard hamlets and lakeside villages, you can book tours with private transportation or ask your local guide to arrange a chauffeured car.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Lausanne inside and out.

Base yourself in Lausanne, then branch out to nearby towns, vineyards, and lakeside walks that make easy day trips and fit nicely with your tour plans.

- Montreux and Chillon: follow the lake promenade, explore the medieval castle, and catch the relaxed Riviera vibe that suits music fans, history lovers, and anyone who wants a smooth lakeside day, and your tour can link a castle visit with a cruise or a wander through quiet streets.

- Lavaux Vineyard Terraces: walk stone lanes between terraced vines, meet growers at small cellars, and take in wide views over the water, a good match if you like wine, easy hikes, photography, and village stops that don’t feel rushed.

- Gruyères: step into a hilltop village, taste cheese at the dairy, and wander the compact castle quarter, which works well for food, medieval lanes, and a simple add-on to nearby chocolate tasting if that’s on your list.

- Geneva: dig into museums, the Old Town, and the international district while seeing the watch scene and lake views, a fit for culture, science, and urban neighbourhoods you can cover in a single day trip by train or boat.
