I am a dark history expert who will reveal Tales of the Terrible and Stories of the Strange on my thoroughly researched walking tours around the Maltese islands. Having spent years researching rare books, archives and academic papers, I now tell these stories on dark history walking tours that are designed to enlighten, educate and - above all - entertain. My tours take place both on the streets and inside fascinating buildings in Valletta, Mdina, Birgu and Senglea. I'm a native of both Malta and the UK and spent 15 years working as a journalist, ten of which were at the BBC in London. Now I combine my love and knowledge of Maltese history with the journalistic accuracy I employed while working on news stories in the UK, Malta, Israel and the West Bank, France and Sierra Leone. I was honoured to have won the top Maltese tourist guide award in 2024. Let me lead you into the shadows as we take a walk on the dark side of life in Malta...

Birgu is much older than Malta’s capital Valletta, and is a place filled with stories of torture, witchcraft, crime and ghosts. Many people practised witchcraft in Malta through the 16th-18th centuries, and this walking tour will reveal some of the spells that were once cast on the island, incantations and rituals to make someone fall in love with you, or throw a curse on your ex, or to cure you of feeling fear. During the tour you’ll also learn the tragic stories behind the ghosts that roam the city’s palazzos and fortifications, and you’ll see the church said to have been visited by the Devil himself. You’ll also see the site of Malta’s biggest-ever explosion, the house where the executioner of Malta once lived, and you’ll be told why a priest once murdered his lover on her doorstep. If your group is larger, or you are a solo traveller, please message for a personalised tour price.
Start the tour outside the Advanced Gate with a story of Malta's biggest-ever explosion See the outside of the Inquisitor's Palace and learn how local men and women used magic, and hear of the witchcraft trials that once took place in Malta See where Malta's executioner once lived, and hear about the strange methods used by the Knights of St John Hear stories of magic spells and about the people who cast them, while enjoying Birgu's charming back streets See the church said to have been visited by Satan himself, and also hear of the priest who murdered his lover Hear how a boy went into a palazzo and vanished - and how his disappearance is linked to an oven... Finish the tour on Birgu Waterfront, next to the Freedom Monument, where you'll hear (gross) examples of love magic and also of the legend of the Grey Lady who haunts Fort St Angelo

We will walk around Birgu's ancient streets, which are generally flat and easy to navigate. Some steps are involved.
