Hola! My name is Silvia and I am a professional tour guide in Malta. Originally from Ecuador, I moved here in the year 2000 and I have been a guide for the past 20 years. Malta is my second home and this is my dream job. Like you dear visitor, I was once a tourist and after discovering that this tiny archipelago has 7000+ years of history in only 316 SQ KM, I fell in love with its narrow streets and medieval towns. After 25 years, I still feel I am living in the land of the eternal sunshine (we have 300 days of sun a year). I have the knowledge and experience to make you discover our little gem in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. Maltese culture is a wonderful mixture of different cultures and I have a passion for Maltese folklore. Anecdotes, superstitions and of course the history of every place we visit are part of the tours I deliver. Keeping in mind that this is your holiday or vacation, I will always make a point to let you enjoy your time in Malta, and adjust to your needs at the time of our tour. With me, you don't have to be shy and you can ask any questions regarding any aspects of everyday life in Malta. I will make my utmost effort to answer you in a timely manner, and if there is something I don't know I will find the information for you and for me. My biggest weakness is food, and in Malta, we are spoilt for choice of amazing places to try delicious Mediterranean dishes. So don't be surprised if I suggest a shortstop to savour one of our local delicacies. Or maybe just to sit down and relax in a typical square of a quaint village and sink into the atmosphere. These are just a few of a thousand reasons why I love Malta, and why I would be happy to take you on a journey to the past in a fun, informative and entertaining way. This is the perfect tour to visit the two most important cities in Malta: Mdina and Valletta. After a short drive, we will stop by the walls of the ancient Mdina, the old capital city of the Maltese archipelago. Since the 9th century, B. C. this has been the place to settle for many important civilizations. It was during the Arab period the city got its name, in medieval times when the city reached its peak importance. Walking around the narrow streets, we can admire the imposing houses of the old nobility of Malta. Then, we will visit Valletta, UNESCO world heritage city, capital of culture for Europe in 2018. This is a major example of military engineering of the 16th century. Built on a peninsula by the Knights of St John, Valletta is almost surrounded by the sea and the views of the Grand Harbor are the most impressive on the whole island.
We will visit the ancient capital city of Mdina. We will walk through its narrow streets and will stop at St Paul Square and then walk to the bastions to enjoy a panoramic of the island. Free time will be given to visiting the Metropolitan Cathedral and I will be happy to guide you inside this church as well. Departing from the Greek's Gate we will take a short walk in Rabat the suburb of Mdina, admiring more palaces and quaint corners. After a short drive, we will arrive in Valletta and our first stop will be the Upper Barakka Gardens with the view of the Grand Harbor. Proceeding to Castille Square, we make our way to the centre of the city where I strongly recommend a visit to St John's Co-Cathedral, a masterpiece of baroque art where the works of Caravaggio are kept. We continue walking towards St George Square to see the Grand Master's Palace from the outside. Our driver will meet us at Valletta to return to your accommodation. If the tour is done on a Saturday we will start from Valletta.
