The city of Valletta, Malta's capital is a fine example of a fortified city of the Renaissance located on a hilly peninsula between two of the finest natural harbours in the Mediterranean. The knights of St. John's, now universally known as the Knights of Malta, aided by some of the most respected European military engineers of the 16th century, planned the city as a single holistic creation, with a uniform grid plan within fortified city walls. The grid-planned city is representative of the island as a whole and within its limited boundaries is reflected some of Malta's richest heritage. On our tour we will not only discover the history behind the city, but I will be giving anecdotes and curiosities as we tour our capital.
We will meet next to the Harbour or at the entrance of Valletta and then we will make our way to the Upper Barracca Gardens, which offers a spectacular view over Malta Grand Harbour. a natural Harbour with 5 indentations. This is a strategic locations where you also find the Secret Room of the Allies. What was going on here during the last World War? We will stroll along the typical streets of Valletta focusing on the most historical buildings that dot the city core, and head towards St. John's co- Cathedral, Malta's gem. The whole church is a work of art superbly expressed in stone, marble sculptures, mosaics and paintings. The church is a definitely the must see museum in our capital. Tour may end in Valletta so then you can stay for some shopping or make your own way back , As per request.
