Hi, I’m Liam. I’m an Australian tour guide and photographer living in the Kanazawa area with my Japanese wife and our young son. I moved to Japan in 2019 and spent several years living in Hokkaido before relocating to Ishikawa, where my wife is from. Since moving to Kanazawa, I have spent my time exploring the city and the wider Hokuriku region while developing and guiding my own tours. Before working in tourism, I was a chef for around ten years, and I have also worked professionally as a photographer since 2018. Because of this, I’m especially interested in Japanese food, local culture and photography. I’m always happy to help guests take some great photos during a tour as well. My tours are friendly, relaxed and flexible. I like sharing the history and culture of each place without making the experience feel like a lecture. I also enjoy showing guests what everyday life in Japan is really like and introducing them to places they may not discover on their own. I can adjust each tour depending on your interests and pace. Whether you are interested in food, samurai history, traditional neighbourhoods, photography or simply exploring Kanazawa with a local, I’ll do my best to make the experience personal and enjoyable. I look forward to meeting you and showing you around Kanazawa.

Discover Kanazawa on a private half-day tour combining the city’s history, culture and beautiful scenery with professional travel photography. As both your local guide and photographer, I’ll introduce you to the stories behind Kanazawa while capturing natural, high-quality photographs throughout the experience. Rather than a formal photoshoot, photography is woven naturally into the tour so you can enjoy exploring while I document your journey. We’ll visit historic samurai and geisha districts, Kanazawa Castle and Kenrokuen Garden while discovering the people, traditions and stories that shaped the city. The tour is private and can be adapted to your interests and pace, leaving you with a deeper understanding of Kanazawa and professional photographs to remember your time here.
Oyama Shrine – Begin with the story of the powerful Maeda family and explore one of Kanazawa’s most distinctive shrines. Kanazawa Castle – Walk through the former heart of the Kaga Domain while discovering the history of the castle, its samurai and impressive defensive architecture. Kenrokuen Garden – Explore one of Japan’s most celebrated gardens, with beautiful seasonal scenery and plenty of opportunities for photographs. Higashi Chaya District – Wander traditional streets lined with wooden machiya while learning about Kanazawa’s geisha culture and teahouses. Asanogawa Riverside – Finish beside the river with a quieter view of historic Kanazawa and a final opportunity for relaxed photographs.

Oyama Shrine, 11-1 Oyamamachi, Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan
We will meet directly in front of the main entrance to Oyama Shrine, beside the distinctive three-storey Shinmon Gate. The gate is easy to recognise by its unusual combination of Japanese, Chinese and European architectural styles and its colourful stained-glass windows. I will be waiting near the entrance to the shrine grounds. The location is central Kanazawa and is easily accessible on foot, by taxi or by local bus.
