Hi, I’m Liam. I’m an Australian tour guide and photographer living in the Kanazawa area with my Japanese wife and our young son. I moved to Japan in 2019 and spent several years living in Hokkaido before relocating to Ishikawa, where my wife is from. Since moving to Kanazawa, I have spent my time exploring the city and the wider Hokuriku region while developing and guiding my own tours. Before working in tourism, I was a chef for around ten years, and I have also worked professionally as a photographer since 2018. Because of this, I’m especially interested in Japanese food, local culture and photography. I’m always happy to help guests take some great photos during a tour as well. My tours are friendly, relaxed and flexible. I like sharing the history and culture of each place without making the experience feel like a lecture. I also enjoy showing guests what everyday life in Japan is really like and introducing them to places they may not discover on their own. I can adjust each tour depending on your interests and pace. Whether you are interested in food, samurai history, traditional neighbourhoods, photography or simply exploring Kanazawa with a local, I’ll do my best to make the experience personal and enjoyable. On this private 6-hour tour, we’ll explore Omicho Market, where I’ll introduce you to local seafood, produce and regional specialties, before continuing through Kanazawa’s historic and cultural heart. We’ll discover the legacy of the powerful Maeda family, explore beautiful Kenrokuen Garden, enjoy traditional matcha, and wander the wooden streets of the Higashi Chaya geisha district. There is no fixed menu or restaurant, giving you the freedom to choose what you would like to try. I’ll recommend dishes and places based on your interests, or a restaurant can be arranged in advance upon request. Kenrokuen admission and matcha are included; food, drinks and other purchases are paid separately.

Lunch – Choose from my recommendations based on your tastes, or a restaurant can be arranged in advance upon request. Kanazawa Castle – Discover the Maeda family and the history of the Kaga Domain. Kenrokuen Garden & Matcha – Explore one of Japan’s most celebrated gardens and enjoy a relaxing traditional matcha experience. Higashi Chaya District – Wander the traditional wooden streets while discovering Kanazawa’s geisha culture, teahouses, sweets and sake traditions. Food and drinks are at your own expense, except for the included matcha.

I will meet you at the Musashigatsuji entrance of Omicho Market, where we’ll begin exploring Kanazawa’s food culture. The market is centrally located and easy to reach by bus, taxi or on foot from many central Kanazawa hotels. I can meet you at your accommodation if it is located at a short walking distance from the Omicho Market.
