Hi. I'm Michi. I'm a National Licensed tour guide in English. I would like to introduce many faces and charms of Japan and make your stay in Japan more fascinating and satisfying. I was born and raised in Hiroshima. My first English tour was as a volunteer guide for visitors to my school when I was a junior high school student. It gave me a great opportunity to study about the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. I spent my life in Hiroshima except for 6 years; 1 year in the UK when I was a student and 5 years working in Singapore and Malaysia. During this period I have enjoyed meeting and talking with people from different cultural backgrounds. These experiences encouraged me to be a licensed tour guide. In Hiroshima, there are two famous World Heritage Sites: the Atomic Bomb Dome in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial and Itsukushima Shrine in Miyajima. I have experienced many tours of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum & Park since I was a junior high school student. I would like to introduce you to the a-bomb legacies that are still existing in the city and the stories under the mushroom cloud. I also would like to share time with you on a historic island, Miyajima. There is one of the most famous Shinto shrines, the Itsukushima Shrine. There we can share an enjoyable time by exploring a sacred atmosphere, tradition, nature, food, etc... I am also an official 'A-bomb legacy successor' designated by the City of Hiroshima. An A-bomb Legacy Successor is a memory keeper of the A-bomb survivors. To ensure that the A-bomb survivors' experiences and desires for peace are faithfully inherited and shared with as many people as possible, the City has started a three-year training program for official 'A-bomb Legacy Successors.' It is possible to include my lecture in my tour. It would be appreciated if you could let me know BEFORE your booking. We will visit some small peace museums and memorial monuments and visit some A-bombed legacies in the city center. There are about 70 A-bombed buildings. They are the structures that existed when the a-bomb exploded within 5 kilometers of the hypocenter. There are about 160 a-bombed trees. They are the trees which were existing when the a-bomb exploded within 2 kilometers of the hypocenter. On this tour, you will be a witness to how Hiroshima City rose from the ashes. NOTE: It is a walking tour, so walking shoes are recommended.
Our tour with Michiru was just wonderful! She is so knowledgeable about Hiroshima and its history. We visited the atomic dome and museum of course but also had the opportunity to visit a smaller museum that was a school at the time of the bombing. Michiru’s knowledge and stories brought the history to life for us. She even accompanied us back to the train station and gave use origami cranes as a souvenir of our day together.
We were very lucky to have Michiru as our tour guide – it was simply perfect! Everything was extremely well organized from the very beginning. She picked us up at the train station right on time and impressed us throughout the day with her fascinating and informative explanations. Her English is excellent, making even complex topics easy to understand. Michiru is not only highly professional but also warm and attentive.
