3) In the Footsteps of the Pilgrims: San Gimignano We visit the Medieval gem, San Gimignano, described as the Manhattan of Tuscany for its tower-houses inhabited by rich merchants who traded along the Via Francigena, which led pilgrims from all over Europe to Rome. We get to the famous square Piazza della Cisterna, where we can taste an outstanding gelato, my favourite one. Then we reach the stunning Collegiata Church, the Torre Grossa and the Torri Gemelle.
This is the best tour we have had in our Italy vacation. Roberta made the experience so personal. Her expertise and personality made the tour as if we were visiting San Gimignano with a friend. Her stories and historic coverage was exceptional. Our group consisted of my family of four, all of which rated Roberta a 5 star host. Her suggestion for lunch was spot on. If you are thinking of visiting San Gimignano Roberta's tour is a must.

I actually had two tours with Roberta on this day, the first was a morning tour of Siena. That afternoon we traveled to San Gimignano a really lovely small medieval city located between Siena and Florence. Roberta is extremely knowledgeable about the city, the monuments, history, and general details that are very interesting. In addition, Roberta is very personable, charming, and has a great sense of humor. The afternoon I spent in San Gimignano with her was wonderful.
We meet in front of the gate Porta San Giovanni, walk along the old Francigena way, reach Piazza della Cisterna, go into the courtyard of the public palace with its Torre Grossa, see the outside of the duomo or Collegiata Church, the Torri Gemelle and the Montestaffoli fortress. This itinerary is flexible. I will be happy to customise the tour for you!
