Pompeii is a unique, 2000-year-old city, preserved after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Spanning 164 acres, visitors can explore its houses, public buildings, theaters, and streets, stepping back in time. Highlights include bakeries, bars, baths, shops, and fountains. The plaster casts of victims are poignant reminders of the eruption's power. After lunch in Pompeii, we visit Herculaneum, just 30 km away. Unlike Pompeii, Herculaneum was buried by a pyroclastic flow, preserving organic materials like wood, doors, and furniture.
