Hello everyone, I'm Paolo Mondola, a professional archaeologist and licensed tourist guide (License No. 1792, Campania Region). I was born and raised in the heart of the Bay of Naples, at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, an area renowned for its extraordinary archaeological heritage. Since childhood, I have been passionate about history and archaeology, especially because I grew up just a few minutes from the remarkable archaeological site of Herculaneum. As a child, I loved exploring the ancient cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, where I was fascinated by the greatness of Greek and Roman civilization. That passion eventually became my profession, leading me to pursue a career as both an archaeologist and a licensed tourist guide. I graduated cum laude from the University of Naples "L'Orientale" with a Master's Degree in Classical Archaeology. During my academic training, I participated in several archaeological excavations in Pompeii and Cumae, gaining valuable field experience that allows me to bring the ancient world to life for my guests. Over the years, I have developed extensive knowledge not only of Pompeii and Herculaneum, but also of Naples, whose historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Phlegraean Fields, and the stunning Amalfi Coast, including Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello. This region is truly unique—a place where history, archaeology, breathtaking landscapes, and centuries-old traditions come together. It is also famous for its outstanding cuisine; after all, the world-famous Pizza Margherita was born here. I deeply love my homeland, rich in history, culture, and natural beauty, and I would be delighted to share it with you. My goal is to provide an authentic, engaging, and unforgettable experience, helping you discover the fascinating history and timeless charm of Southern Italy. Welcome to the real Italy. Credentials Archaeologist – Licensed Tourist Guide (License No. 1792) Master's Degree in Classical Archaeology (cum laude) from the University of Naples "L'Orientale", one of Italy's leading universities in the field of archaeology. Professional archaeologist with excavation experience in Pompeii and Cumae. Licensed Tourist Guide of the Campania Region. Specialist in Greek and Roman archaeology. More important than any qualification, however, is my passion for sharing the history and archaeology of this extraordinary region. Every tour is designed to be informative, engaging, and tailored to your interests, offering a unique opportunity to experience the ancient world through the eyes of an archaeologist.

Overview of your Pompei tour

The ancient city of Pompeii is probably the most important archaeological site in the world. A tour here led by an archeologist, even better! In the past, it was an agricultural and commercial center where about 20000 people lived. The eruption of Vesuvius by A. D. 79 the ditrusse and covered it under about 20 feet of pumice, lapilli and ash. The tour lasts about 4 hours and will be a journey through history where you will see houses, theaters, baths, shops, brothels, casts of the victims, in an incredible state of conservation. This tour includes the last discoveries and Villa of the Mysteries. It is a unique emotion to visit a Roman city that integrates in all its architectural aspects. During the tour I'm talking about the public and private life of the ancient Romans. It will be like travelling back in time! How many years lived on average and how tall were they? How long did they work in one day? Who were the richest? Where did free time pass? Where did the slaves come from? I'm answering that.

Title: An Unforgettable Immersion into Roman Life with Paolo! Our 4-hour tour of Pompeii with Paolo M. was, without a question, the highlight of our time in the area. From the moment we met, Paolo’s passion for history and his deep knowledge of the site were evident. Rather than just pointing out ruins, Paolo focused on immersing us in the surroundings. He painted a vivid picture of what daily life was like for the people of Pompeii, helping us understand the social fabric, the architecture, and the small human details that often get lost in history books. We walked away with a significantly greater understanding of the city and a genuine connection to its past. Paolo was professional, engaging, and incredibly thoughtful in his delivery. We found ourselves wanting to know even more by the end of the session—there is simply so much to see, but Paolo maximized every minute of our four hours. If you are looking for a guide who is knowledgeable, energetic, and truly dedicated to his craft, we cannot recommend Paolo M. highly enough. He made our visit to Pompeii feel personal and profound.
