Hi, I'm Marta an official local guide of Campania Region since 2014. I was born and I live in Salerno, a town in Southern Italy, close to the Amalfi Coast. I'm graduated in Foreign Languages (Arabic, Portuguese and English) and I have a Master Degree in History of Art and Cultural Heritage. I worked in Spain for two years with an Italian Tour Operator. I was selling package holidays to Spanish agencies. In 2014, I took my Tour Guide Licence, because I wanted to change direction with my career as a Tour guide. I started part-time working at the Botanical Garden of Salerno and teaching junior and secondary aged students in Orienteering, an outdoor sport. During this period, the Garden Tours Department asked me to take visitors on two hours tours of Salerno, which lead on to self-organised tours around the historical sites of Campania Region. Today, I do tours around the region, in particular, tours of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Amalfi, Ravello and Paestum. My tours are comprehensive, funny and are designed to inform you about the people, culture and history of this wonderful land. I aim to grab the interest of visitors, deepening the understanding of local history, using the anecdotal history alongside the classical facts. I'm an enthusistic guide with a knowledge of Art and History, obtained from Post-gradueted University degree. I love to enirich my tour with curiosity and great stories about the ancient Romans. My Pompeii and Herculaneum Tour is like a journey back in time. This will be an amazing experience for adults and children. The two settlements discovered under the active Volcano Vesuvius, show how life was at the time of Emperor Tito, 79 AD. Pompeii offers a complete overview of an ancient Roman town plan with the public buildings, the streets and the houses almost completely unearthed. The particular burial dynamics of Herculaneum has allowed the preservation of organic materials, such as foods, wood elements and the upper floors of the buildings. In Pompeii we will see the main public monuments, such as: Basilica, Forum , Macellum and the best preserved Domus. In Herculaneum you will appreciate the amazing decorations of the House of Deers, the well preserved furnishings of the House of the Wooden Partition etc.
Marta did a great job on the tour. She was able to meet or exceed the expectations of each member of the group despite varying knowledge levels and desires all of us had. We (group of 5) had the pleasure of a tour with Marta on Sept 3, 2023 of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Marta showed a keen understanding of the two sites, leading us to specific areas and providing excellent historical and cultural facts for us to absorb. She was able to answer all questions and was flexible in directing the visits based on our interests. Excellent organization before and during the tour, including recommendations for other places to visit in the area. Highly recommended!
The plan of the day: •Visiting the civic centre, with the main monuments •See the principal private houses, like Casa del Fauno •Visit some commercial buildings and the public baths Stopping for lunch if it's required Then, almost 30 minutes to arrive in Herculaneum with Circumvesuviana train and 10 minutes walk to reach the archaeological site. Two hours visit in Herculaneum: •Visiting the main Domus •Seeing Public buildings: College of the Augustales and Central Thermae •The Ancient beach •The Antiquarium
