Hi everybody, my name is Marcello. I'm specialized in high grade archeological and historical tours. Born and raised in Naples and belonging to a very old Neapolitan famiIy I've got the official license of Professional Tour Guide in 2000. Archaeological and historical tours are my core business but always based on keeping my clients "AWAY FROM THE MASSIVE TOURISM". I love my job. I love my country. "Tell me what you eat. . . . and I'll tell you who you are" - Food is most important part of any local culture. Almost 25 centuries of history made the Neapolitan cuisine one of the richest in the world. Sitting in one of the old "Trattorias" where just the locals go eating or tasting the deep fried street food while you are walking in the old town, is the best way to "feel" our milenary culture using one of the five senses, "the taste". Learning how to drink the authentic lemon liquor, the "limoncello", stopping step by step to the oldest pastry shops, to the chocolate makers (some established over 2 centuries ago), tasting "sweet sfogliatellas and babas", enjoy the Neapolitan coffee experience. . . "mamma mia" !!! The is going to change your way to think about the life, trust me. You will enjoy life like you've never done before. . . and forever fall in love with Naples and it's cuisine!
What a great introduction to Napoli through the eyes of a local. Don't eat ANYTHING before you joining the tour - you'll want to save room for every delicious bite. This is the second time that we have used Marcello for a tour. The first time was a few years ago for a Pompeii tour which was excellent. This time we did Herculaneum and a Napoli/Naples food tour. Marcello was outstanding. On the Herculaneum tour we beat the crowds by at least an hour which allowed us to see things at our pace. Marcello was able to compare and contrast Herculaneum and Pompeii so that you really understood the differences that the two towns had when Mt. Vesuvius erupted and what life was like. We then went to Napoli where Marcello gave us the history of Napoli and food tour. The pizze fritte (similar to a deep-fried calzone) was incredible. The chocolate was great. Overall, the tour was a major highlight of our cruise.
We were in a group of six and all agreed that Marcello was an excellent guide. He was knowledgeable, patient and passionate about his love of Naples. If anything, we ate too much food on the walking tour, but enjoyed every bite!!
Marcello was great. He took us through different neighborhoods where we tried a variety of great food, finally culminating at the oldest pizzeria in Naples.
Marcello was the perfect guide, well informed, entertaining, and nice. He quickly figured out what I was most interested in and tailored the day to meet my expectations. Honestly, I can't recommend him highly enough.
Walking with Marcello from the cruise port into the older, then newer sections of Naples was like meeting up with an old friend who wanted to show you around the city he calls home. He was charming and adaptive to our interests and our physical speed and abilities. His pride and desire to share his extensive knowledge of the area were infectious. Should we ever return, I would love to spend time with him exploring the old underground history. Highly recommended for any tour he would lead.
The tour start at the oldest coffee house of Naples: the "Caffè Gambrinus", estabilished in 1860. Together with the best creamy espresso I will let you taste the Sfogliatella, an iconic pastry. There is no better way to start the day! It's time to walk through the monumental area and its main buildings like the Royal Palace, the Gallery Umberto, the so called New Castle, and the main square Piazza del Plebiscito. After that we move to the most authentic food market: the Mercato della Pignasecca where you'll taste deep fried finger food, lemon Trippa, and delicious fried seafood right in the fish market. All this walking, talking and learning more than two thousand years of Neapolitan history. At lunch time……her majesty Pizza Margherita at the oldest pizzeria. Ice cream and Cioccolato Foresta at "Gay Odin" choccolate maker since 1830 will be the last step of this amazing experience. N.
