Hi, I'm Dario, a licensed local guide in Naples with 10 years of experience and a background as tour manager on cruise ships across the Mediterranean. You only get one shot at this trip. I make sure you don't spend it wandering around without understanding what you're looking at, or stuck with a guide who barely speaks your language. Beyond what's required for the license, I've spent years studying the history, art and archaeology of this area on my own, because I don't want to just recite dates, I want to actually understand what we're looking at, and help you understand it too. If you're arriving by cruise, I build the day around your ship's schedule, with private pick-up and drop-off, so you're back on board on time, guaranteed. And you're always in direct contact with me, not an agency. A stranger once stopped me while I was working and asked, "Are you a tour guide?" I said yes. He replied, "Remember that all the travellers will see your land through your eyes." That's still my job: not reciting dates, but making you feel the 3,000 years of history behind Naples, so it becomes the part of the trip you'll talk about for years. About me: degree in Economics, background in luxury hotels, tour operators and cruise lines, which took me across most of the Mediterranean and many European capitals. I lived in the UK for a year and in South America for several years. I speak fluent English and Spanish, both C2 certified. I am not a driver. I can arrange for a separate car and driver.

What is beauty? It's not easy to answer this question but Herculaneum is able to answer what the beauty of a Roman's city was. Why can this city be named noble? Smaller than Pompeii but more sophisticated, Herculaneum was situated just in front of the sea and was populated by the rich Roman's elite. As we know nature has an enormous creative and destructive power and Herculaneum, which was a thriving and beautiful city, was canceled from the earth by the terrible Vesuvius eruption in 79 AD. Covered by volcanic materials for centuries the city was able to preserve its charming appeal. There the rich Romans enjoyed a mild climate, admired the sea, ate the delicious fruits and vegetables and drank some of the most famous wines of the Roman empire. This place still represents the splendor and the opulence of the imperial era. Don't miss the opportunity to appreciate the glory of this city rooted in ancient mythology of Hercules.
You meet the guide at the ticket office then you walk on the original Roman streets where you find shops, houses and public buildings. There will be a stop at the pretty and very interesting museum where you see many incredible precious objects recovered during the excavations and you realize how close their daily life was to our one. The tour proceeds by visiting the ancient city and stopping at the elegant houses where you see frescoes and mosaics which were the witness of romans' lushness. Visiting the thermal bath, you will feel the wellness that the Romans felt when they relaxed and washed themselves. You reach the Herculaneum sport center and see a great swimming pool hidden in the rock. There you will understand that the Romans knew well the relationship between exercise and physical and mental well-being: "Mente sana in corpore sano". The tour finishes at the ticket office.
