Join my Jaipur Walled City Sightseeing tour and learn about the History of the Pink City. Encircled by a formidable wall, Jaipur was the only planned city of its time. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II ascended the Amber throne in 1699, but abandoned the rugged hills of the fort-city of Amber in 1727. He sought the adjoining plains for his perfect palace-city and laid the foundations of Jaipur, which owes its name to him. Designed by the brilliant young Bengali architect Vidhyadhar Bhattacharya in accordance with Shilp Shastra - an ancient Hindu treatise on architecture - Jaipur follows a grid system. The wide straight bazaars (shopping centers), raastaas (streets), galis (lanes), mohallas (residential colonies) and uniform rows of shops on either side of main bazaars.
Ravi is an excellent "old school" guide. He knows his stuff and was keen that we experienced everything. The downside was that we did feel rushed and would much preferred for the tour to be tuned to our pace. I would also mention that whilst Ravi speaks English, we came to the conclusion that it wasn't his strong point so natural conversation was constrained. I'm sure that most people would enjoy the tours that Ravi offers.
What a fantastic tour Ravi provided us with! We had briefed Ravi in advance that we were in a hurry as we only had one day and wanted to see as much as possible. Ravi delivered exactly what we asked for and it was a real fun and informative day. We loved it and rate it as one of the best tours we have taken in Asia. Our tour was amazing. Ravi was full of information and explained everything to us. The car was comfortable and the driver good. What we all liked about Ravi was he had a good sense of humour and we had lots of laughs.
