Berlin is a city of constant changes - come and see it with me! I'll show you the city in a less touristic, more authentic way, with a strong focus on history and memory, while also exploring what's happening nowadays: contrasting the changes in society and culture (and maybe even food if you would like!). A bit about me: I have a strong multidisciplinary background. I came to Berlin 7 years ago for a PhD in Neuroscience, focusing on Psychiatry. However, it's not just my studies that have kept me here. The city's rich history, internationality and unparalleled sense of freedom have all captured my heart. In addition to Neuroscience, I also have a great passion for history and culture, and I'm a post-doctoral researcher in memory studies, researching the history of the place where I work, the hospital, Charité. I love communication with people, guiding, history, and Berlin! I am an official Berlin tour guide (BBS), with a focus on Jewish history (but not only!), and I also give tours in the New Synagogue in Berlin.

Berlin's history is deeply marked by the Nazi era, a brief but devastating period from 1933 to 1945. While almost every historical tour in Berlin addresses it, this one offers a full focus on Hitler's rise to power & the Nazi regime's destructive impact. We'll visit remaining historical traces like the former Luftwaffe headquarters & key memorials from different periods, such as the Soviet War Memorial. If you want to visit the Topography of Terror exhibition about the rise of fascism in Germany, book the tour in the morning/noon. I engage with this history professionally through my post-doctoral research at the Charité Hospital, studying how today's staffers deals with the Institution's 1930s-40s past, as part of the topic of collective German memory. If you'd like a deeper exploration, I could customize this tour for a different price to cover additional sites outside Berlin-Mitte (more time would be reuired), such as the Olympic Stadium, the Soviet War Memorial in Treptower Park & Tempelhof Airport.
·Once we've gathered at the Reichstag, (German Parliament pivotal in Hitler's rise), we'll head to the communists & social democrats' Memorial. ·We'd then visit the Sinti & Roma people's Memorial. ·Later, we'd reach the Soviet war memorial, built after WWII to commemorate Russian fighters against fascism. ·Next, we'd visit the Memorial of Europe's fallen Jews, a massive monument commemorating 6 million lives. ·Afterwards, we'd pass by where Hitler's underground bunker was located, where top Nazi leaders managed the war's final phase. ·We'd then see the Propaganda Ministry which helped manipulate the public. ·Later we'd see Georg Elser's memorial, a resistance fighter. ·Next, we'd see photos of the New Reich Kanzlerei, former office of Hitler (no longer standing). -Then it's on to the Former Luftwaffe headquarters, one of few intact Nazi buildings (Air Force Ministry once led by Hermann Göring). -At last, we'll reach Former SS & Gestapo headquarters where you'll see the Topography of Terror exhibit.
