Potsdam: Historic City center and Sanssouci Garden - Day-Trip from Berlin

One day in Potsdam was not enough! Gerhardt has full knowledge of the history of Germany and had incredible detailed stories behind the buildings, area, monarchy and changes over time. He was able to point out the new vs old architecture and had delightful insights that brought the town to life. We should have scheduled another day in Potsdam just to have time to visit more of the museums. This trip was a wonderful complement to the more modern history we received during our walking tour of Berlin.

Gerhard was prompt and met us at our hotel although he resides in southern Berlin. He assisted us with purchase of tickets for the train, tram, and bus. He had a solid command of the transportation to, around, and from Potsdam. He led us from the city center to the Dutch Quarter. From there, we walked to Alexandrowka which I requested earlier. We had a light bite there before our extensive walk through Sanssouci. We did not tour interiors. There wasn't enough time. We did take another refreshment break.

Potsdam and Sanssouci were amazing and Gerhard was a very good guide for this visit. His English is good, but with a definite German accent. It was a very good day with him and a great way to see the sights. He was very flexible about what we wanted to see and was willing to do the tour in reverse order.

Excellent and informative. We covered so much distance and ground but the day just flew by. Gerhard brought history to life often sharing his photos to help us understand what life would have been like. He also helped us understand the context behind the King's rule in Potsdam and how it interconnected with global.politics of the time. Loved it. Thank you!

Gerhard took the time to listen to what we wanted to see and experience then put it together in a logical sequential tour so our time was maximized. His knowledge of Potsdam and in particular the Sanssouci Park is extensive. His anecdotes and historical insights were entertaining. We highly recommend Gerhard as a guide. Thanks for a great day. Gerhard was knowledgeable and enjoyable. Our only issue was that we were not able to enter a palace that we would like to see because of the line. I would have liked Gerhard to arrange for the tickets to be purchased earlier in the day so that we had that option.
