In 2013, I passed through Berlin by accident—and never left. I’m Ben, a history teacher and certified tour guide, and even after all these years, I still find it incredible that I call this city home. Born and raised in Israel, I grew up with the idea of Germany as the "forbidden land" and Berlin as the "capital of evil." But perhaps that’s exactly what drew me here—the city's layers of history, its resilience, and its power to transform. As a scholar of European and German history, I initially thought Berlin would be just another stop on my journey. Instead, I found a city unlike any other—complex, fascinating, and impossible to ignore. That’s why I stayed. That’s why I became a guide. And that’s why I love sharing my knowledge and passion for Berlin with visitors from around the world. What You Can Expect on My Tours 🔹 History Comes Alive – Walk through Berlin’s most iconic landmarks and hidden gems as I bring the city’s history to life, from Prussian grandeur to the rise and fall of the Berlin Wall. 🔹 Jewish Heritage & Memory – As an expert on Jewish life and history, I provide an insider’s perspective on the past, present, and future of Jewish life in Berlin and Germany. 🔹 Beyond the Landmarks – Explore the stunning palaces of Potsdam, experience the vibrant energy of Kreuzberg’s street art scene, or embark on a food and culture tour that dives into Berlin’s diverse flavors. Get to know Berlin's Jewish history with the help of a private guide. This comprehensive walking tour takes in must-see landmarks such as the Neue Synagoge and Holocaust Memorial along with the Mitte neighborhood's quirky Scheunenviertel and architecture-rich Hackesche Höfe districts. As in all of my tours, we start with a hotel pickup and you can choose your preferred start time for an experience that's tailored to you. Throughout history, Germany, including Berlin, excluded the Jews from normal life, but the Jews insisted and eventually received full rights as citizens. From isolated ghettos and communities, the Jews climbed to an influential social position in the economy, science, culture and the new emerging democratic politics of Germany until the Nazis took power. The tour will tell the amazing story of the Jews in Germany and the Nazi attempt to eradicate them from Europe. This tour includes a visit to the impressive and moving Platform 17 (Gleis 17) memorial for the deportation of Berlin's jews.
Where would we visit? - Central Holocaust memorial site - The first Jewish Cemetery In Berlin (1672) - New synagogue (1866) and the Old synagogue (1714) - Moses Mendelssohn grave - The Missing House monument - "Ahava" Kinderheim - The Jewish orphanage - Jewish boys' school and Girls' school - Rosenstrasse "women's protest" memorial - The "Kindertransport" memorial outside Friedrichstraße Train Station - Regina Yonas house - the first woman to be ordained Rabbi (1935) - Otto Weidt workshop for the Blind - Hackesche Höfe courtyards complex - Platform 17 - memorial for the deportations of Berlin Jews Plus, many more locations along the route.
