A "Senior Guide" by now, being a tour guide since 1994, I'm still passionate about this ever-changing town. This is Berlin to me: modern German politics, city planning, Prussian kings and emperors, avantgarde arts and cultures, multiethnic life, dreamy lakeshores, a great amount of freedom. . . but mostly, of course, it's the 20th century history which counts here. The two big tales of the 20th century were Berlin-made - one of deepest misery and one of highest joy - Hitler's Third Reich and the Fall of the Berlin Wall. It was the fascination of Berlin after the Wall had gone, the split city becoming one, that made me turn Berlin into my profession. I offer expertise and experience, comprehensive, top-quality and knowledgeable services, always focusing on my guests's interests and wishes. All my tours can be taken either with minivan, bus, or walking/taxi/public transport. All tours in English, Spanish or German. I also work as tour and travel guide in Germany, Czech Republic, and Poland, Krakow/Auschwitz. Apart from guiding, I love swing dancing and I create art (mostly drawings). Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Berlin! Certified member of BVGD (Federal Association of Guides in Germany) and Berlin Guide e.V. Certified guide in: Otto Weidt's Workshop of the Blind, Memorial KZ Sachsenhausen, Pergamon Museum, Old Museum, Charlottenburg Palace / New Wing Guiding in Topography of Terror, Jewish Museum, New Museum, Old National Gallery, Checkpoint Charlie Museum, Allied Museum, Stasi Museum Dipl.-Psych. in Psychology, Free University Berlin, Art Therapist

Before Hitler, a third of German Jews lived in Berlin. To get an intimate view on life before and during Nazi dictatorship, let me take you on a walk around the New Synagogue and Hackescher Markt. I'll tell you stories of hide-outs, betrayal, and survival in the small, most impressive museum of Otto Weidt's Workshop for the Blind, one of my favorite places in Berlin, as it breaks down the immensity of the crime to individual stories. I'm an expert of National Socialist and Jewish History of Berlin, striving to convey this darkest chapter of German history in a sensitive, informative way. The importance of Berlin Jews for the city's history, e. g. the art sponsor James Simon, or painter Max Liebermann, is eminent. I'm experienced in guiding Holocaust Studies tours in Berlin, also to Krakow and Auschwitz or Prague. Also view my Jewish Berlin: my main topic - Full-Day Tour, tour #6381. In regard to Jewish history, I can fill a couple days and I'm glad to prepare a Custom Tour.

Janna was terrific. She is extraordinarily personable and knowledgeable about the subjects: Jewish Berlin and 20th Century history. She includes detailed information about different areas in the City and the transition after 1989. Pictures from her computer really help to explain the history. She is also well versed in the cultural development of Berlin, having lived in the City for many years. We've hired guides in other cities and Janna was simply the best.
As a professor leading a group of university students on a Holocaust Study Trip, Janna was the perfect guide for our group. She was very interactive and constantly asked the students questions, encouraging them to think, wonder, and approach what we were learning critically. In other words, she was as much a teacher as she was a tour guide. In particular, Janna was an excellent guide for the Jewish Museum - we would not have gotten as much out of that visit as we did if we had not gone with her.
Janna was a great guide - she was knowledgeable and personable and took us to the high points of this tour. We were only sorry that she had to leave us at the Jewish Museum rather than go there and give us an overview. As it turned out, there were no self guided tours available which would have lent greater insight into the exhibition.
