This walking tour in the historical heart of Berlin feels like strolling through an open-air museum. Several centuries of history span from the Middle Age to the present. We will start where the city of Berlin originated: the Nicholas's Quarter. Then we will immerse ourselves in Prussian history with its majestic architecture along the famous avenue Unter den Linden, beginning with Museum Island, a Unesco World Heritage site, with its latest addition, the Humboldt Forum. You will discover the influence that the king, Frederic the Great, had on the city in the second half of the 18th century. Where did the Huguenots, the French religious refugees, settle? Which street "not to be missed" was mentioned in all the tourist books at the beginning of the last century? Why was the Brandenburg Gate built and how did it become the symbol of Germany? You will see where the GDR's regime left its mark and how political decisions taken since the end of the World War II impacted some of the historical landmarks.
During the tour we will be covering the following highlights: - Nikolaiviertel (Nicholas' Quarter) - Red City Hall - Television Tower - Berlin Cathedral - Humboldt-Forum former site of the Berlin City Castle - Museum Island and its five museums awarded World Heritage Status by UNESCO - Boulevard Unter den Linden - Crown Prince's Palace - Old Arsenal now German Historical Museum - New Guardhouse - Humboldt University - Bebelplatz or Forum Fridericianum - Book Burning Memorial - Boulevard Unter den Linden - Gendarmenmarkt - Pariser Platz - Brandenburg Gate I am more than willing to customize this tour according to your preferences, please contact me for a customized tour
